(UPDATED) One Killed in Motorcycle Crash

A 20 year old Warren County man was killed in a motorcycle crash today (Monday) on Highway 70 east at a guardrail near Sligo bridge (Smithville side).

Trooper Chris Delong of the Tennessee Highway Patrol said Zane Jefferson was traveling west on Highway 70 on a 2004 Suzuki motorcycle when he failed to negotiate a curve and slid into the guardrail.  Jefferson, who was wearing a helmet,  died at the scene.

Members of the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department and DeKalb Volunteer Fire Department were also on the scene to render assistance.




Man Charged with Assaulting his Girlfriend

A man was arrested for domestic assault after hitting his girlfriend in the face during an argument last month.

39 year old Marcus Keen Calhoun, Sr. of Hartsville is under a $3,500 bond and he will make a court appearance on March 21

Sheriff Patrick Ray said that on March 1 a deputy was called to a residence on Adcock Cemetery Road to investigate a complaint of a domestic assault which took place on February 26. The officer spoke with a woman who reported that on February 26 she was in a vehicle with her boyfriend, Calhoun and that he hit her in the face during a verbal altercation while he was driving causing her to have a bruised right eye. The woman had visible signs of injury.




Smithville First Baptist Church to Host Spring Community Day Saturday (VIEW VIDEO HERE)

The Smithville First Baptist Church is hosting a Spring Community Day on Saturday, March 16th from 9 am to 1pm in the church’s Life Enrichment Center (gym).

“Its four hours of service and love from our church to the community and we try to do this once per season. Several things will be going on at the same time,” said Church Pastor Chad Ramsey.

The event will feature a free yard sale, free health screenings, and free car washes. Free oil changes for single mothers and senior adults will also be offered by the church to be redeemed at the Napa Store in Smithville.
