DCHS Cross Country Runner Advances to State

The DCHS Cross Country team competed at their TSSAA-Region 4 race on October 25 at Henry Horton State Park in Chapel Hill.
Senior, Ian Colwell, ran a personal best time of 18:27 on the 3.1 mile course , finishing in the top 15 out of a field of 153 runners. His finish advanced him to the State Cross Country Championship meet which will be held on November 3rd at Sanders Ferry Park in Hendersonville.
The boys team finished 9th overall out of a field of 15 teams in a very tough region. Followed by Colwell were teammates: Caleb Gray, Cale Brown, Dylan Cathey, Kaleb Spears, Ethan Spears and Xavier Parker.
Juniors Mylie Phillips and Madeline Martin competed in the Varsity girls division.
Crash at Liberty Claims Elderly Alexandria Man

A Thursday morning crash involving two vehicles claimed the life of an elderly Alexandria man at the intersection of Highways 70 & 96 at Liberty.
Central Dispatch notified emergency personnel at 11:23 a.m.
Dead is 85-year-old George Dodd, Jr. Dodd’s wife, 82-year-old Alice Francis Dodd was injured in the crash along with 78-year-old Sarah Harrington of Auburntown.
According to Trooper Bobby Johnson of the Tennessee Highway Patrol, Harrington was west on Highway 70 and turning left onto Highway 96 in a 2004 Toyota Hylander when she pulled into the path of a 2011 Mazda 3, driven by Mrs. Dodd, who was traveling east on Highway 70. Mr. Dodd was a passenger with his wife. Upon impact, the Hylander overturned and came to rest on the driver side. Harrington was entrapped. Members of the DeKalb County Fire Department’s Extrication and Rescue Team were summoned to help remove Harrington from her vehicle.
A landing zone was set up at DeKalb West School for a Vandy Life Flight helicopter to airlift Mr. Dodd but he passed away shortly after the crash. Mrs. Dodd and Harrington were transported by DeKalb EMS to Ascension St. Thomas DeKalb Hospital.
The crash was investigated by Trooper Johnson with assistance from THP Lieutenant Charlie Caplinger and Trooper Brent Collier. The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department was also on the scene.

Jared Davis remains in the drivers seat among WJLE’s Fearless Forecasters picking college football winners eight weeks into the season.
Jared has a record of 86-34 followed by Dewain Hendrixson at 84-36, John Pryor, Scott Goodwin, and Grant James of the James Gang each at 83-37, Ricky Atnip 82-38, Scott Brown 81-39, Chad Kirby 79-41, and Darrell Gill of the Gill Gang at 78-42.
For the week, John Pryor had the best record at 9-6, followed by Scott Goodwin, Chad Kirby, Scott Brown, and Grant James each at 8-7 and Darrell Gill, Ricky Atnip, Jared Davis, and Dewain Hendrixson each at 7-8.
Neither of the Fearless Forecasters hit his underdog pick last week.
Overall, Jared Davis still leads in underdog points with 35 followed by Dewain Hendrixson with 30, Ricky Atnip 26.5, Darrell Gill 18, Scott Goodwin 12.5, Chad Kirby and John Pryor each with 6.5, and Grant James with 3 points.
