2024 DCHS Golf Season Underway

The DCHS Lady Tiger golf team picked up where it left off last year on Monday winning the Early Bird Golf Tournament hosted by Cookeville High School.

Chloe Boyd, Emily Anderson, and Alison Poss moved to 8-0 on the season and look to return to the state tournament in October.

At the Early Bird, they competed against seven other teams and 23 other golfers. Boyd finished first with a 76. Anderson tied for 6th with an 86, and Poss finished 8th with an 87.

Head Golf Coach John Pryor said “I am so proud of these young ladies. They work so hard and represent our community so well. I am just grateful to get to work with them. I know they would love another opportunity to compete at the state tournament,” said Coach Pryor.

The boys’ team is 4-8 on the year and finished in 9th place at the Early Bird. They were led by Bradley Hale with an 80, Abram Koegler and Cooper Goodwin shot 87 and William Blair and Jamison Troncoso shot 88.

“We were pretty close with several teams in our district, but they got us today,” said Coach Pryor. I hope my guys use this as motivation, so we hopefully get them in the post season. I love my guys and know they will compete,” added Coach Pryor.

Sheriff Patrick Ray has issued a scam alert warning!

“We had someone report a scam today (Monday) in which a scammer used a local officer’s name and said the victim missed jury duty and owed a fine and if they did not pay the fine, they would get arrested. This is a scam,” said Sheriff Ray. “Law enforcement does not call people and tell them to pay fines with Apple cards, Blue Dot cards, gift cards, or Bitcoins. If you get a call like this do not give them any money or personal information. Hang up the phone. If you think you owe a fine, you can always call the DeKalb County Circuit Court Clerk’s Office at 615-597-5711,” Sheriff Ray said.

A popular and colorful character from the Duck Dynasty reality television series which aired on A&E from 2012 to 2017 is making his home in Smithville.

Tim Guraedy, best known to the show’s millions of hard-core fans as “Mountain Man,” was invited to the monthly meeting of the Smithville Mayor and Aldermen Monday evening to offer the opening prayer.

As a regular on Duck Dynasty, Guraedy was the slow-talking air-conditioning repairman/radio host and a neighbor to the Robertsons, the Louisiana family that made a fortune from best-selling duck calls, and around which the Duck Dynasty show was based. Mountain Man was the only semi-regular cast member who was not a Robertson family member or employee of Duck Commander.

While he was born in Louisiana, Guraedy moved around a bit in his youth, spending time in Minnesota, Tennessee and Indiana. But the lure of the Bayou State was too strong, and Guraedy returned to Louisiana, where he made his home for several years before moving back to Tennessee. He lived in West Monroe, LA, the small town made famous by Duck Dynasty and Duck Commander. For to know Mountain Man is to know a man whose Christian faith is a big part of who he is. “Life’s not easy, but I have God in my life and it’s so much better. So much better,” he has said. This faith, as well as his celebrity, is now allowing him the opportunity to reach out to people who need inspiration. Guraedy is also an avid outdoorsman, enjoying both fresh and saltwater fishing, as well as hunting for everything from wild boar to, well, ducks, of course.
