Miss Jamboree Pageants Saturday, June 18

The 2022 Miss Jamboree Pageants are set for Saturday, June 18 at the DeKalb County Complex starting at 11:00 a.m. sponsored by the Smithville Business and Professional Women’s Club.
Addison Jean Puckett, daughter of Jimmy and Anita Puckett, was crowned Miss Jamboree in the age 17-20 category last year.
All Tennessee girls, babies, and toddlers may enter by June 10th.
The entry fee is $25.00 per contestant. A People’s Choice Award will also be given in each category and there are optional awards of prettiest eyes, hair, attire, and photogenic. The entry fee for optionals is $5.00 in each category. All winners in the 11-13, 14-16, and 17-20 are required to be present during the Fiddlers Jamboree July 1 & 2 to help distribute trophies, flyers, etc.
Age groups are as follows:
Boys and girls- one day to 6 months
Boys and girls- 7-12 months
Boys and girls-13-24 months
Boys and girls-25-48 months
Girls-4-6 years
Girls-7-10 years
Girls-11-13 years
Girls- 14-16 years
Girls-17-20 years
Include on the entry form, name and age of contestant, complete address and phone number, parents or guardians names, and note “I love the Jamboree Because”.
Mail completed entry form and fees to Angie Meadows, 3385 New Home Road, Smithville 37166. Make checks payable to the Smithville Business & Professional Women’s Club. Applications can be picked up at the Smithville Review or Message a BPW member for a Facebook application.
DeKalb School Calendar Released for 2022-23

Although DeKalb County Schools are now closed for the summer break, the calendar is set for the 2022-23 school year.
A system-wide in-service day will be July 26 and at the individual schools July 27 & 28. Registration for students will be Monday, August 1 and the first full day of school is set for Wednesday, August 3. Tuesday, August 2 will be an administrative day for teachers only.
DeKalb County students and teachers will have a full week off for fall break October 17-21, Thanksgiving November 21-25, and spring break March 27-31, and a two week break for Christmas December 21 to January 4. December 20 will be an abbreviated day. Students will return to school after the Christmas holiday on January 5, 2023. Schools will also be closed for Labor Day September 5, Dr. Martin Luther King Day January 16, President’s Day February 20, and Good Friday April 7. The last day of school will be May 24, 2023.
Report cards will be issued at all schools on October 10, January 9, March 14, and May 24.
Parent teacher conferences will be held at DCHS from 3-6 p.m. on October 10 and March 14 and at all the other schools, DWS, NES, SES, and DMS from 3-6 p.m. on October 13 and March 16.
Man charged with Aggravated Stalking

A man accused of harassing and demanding oral sex from a teenager has been charged with aggravated stalking.
42-year-old Jessie Comer Harris of Possum Hollow Road, Dowelltown is under a $10,000 bond and he will make a court appearance on May 26.
Sheriff Patrick Ray said that on May 15 Harris showed up several times at the residence of his 17-year-old victim demanding oral sex. Law enforcement officers were notified each time. Meanwhile on May 14 officers were summoned to DeKalb Market due to Harris harassing the same victim at that location. The victim told officers that the harassment from Harris had been occurring for two weeks.
A man and his girlfriend were arrested earlier this month after they were found with methamphetamine and marijuana.
48-year-old Charles Edward White, Jr. of Johnson’s Chapel Road and 34-year-old Tiffany Jeanette Ford of South Carter Street, Sparta are each charged with possession of methamphetamine and marijuana with intent to manufacture, sell, or deliver. Bond for each is $250,000 and they will make a court appearance on May 26.
Sheriff Ray said that on May 12 a search warrant was executed at White’s home and found inside the residence where White and Ford were present was an estimated 18.42 grams of methamphetamine along with various baggies and other paraphernalia. Under the hood of a vehicle outside the home was an estimated 33.1 grams of marijuana.
51-year-old Tisha Elaine Burns of Miller Road, Smithville is charged with being a fugitive from justice. Her bond is $50,000 and she will be in court May 26.
Sheriff Ray said that on May 14 a deputy made contact with Burns at a location on Dry Creek Road. A background check through central dispatch revealed that Burns was wanted in York County, Virginia for probation violation.
50 year old Christopher Bryan Pack, Sr. of Oak Place Drive, Smithville is charged with evading arrest. His bond is $2,000 and he will be in court May 26.
Sheriff Ray said that on May 7 during an incident call investigation at a local business, a deputy spoke with Pack who gave his name and a false date of birth. After providing the information, Pack went into the store and fled on foot out the back door. Pack had an active warrant for his arrest for failure to appear and that is believed to be his reason for trying to flee.
44-year-old Herman Floyd Wilson, Jr. of Rock Island is charged with violation of a temporary order of protection and bond conditions. His bond is $7,000 and he will make a court appearance June 2.
Sheriff Ray said that on May 16 a deputy was summoned to the Ragland Bottom Recreation area due to a possible domestic incident. Upon arrival the officer spoke to all parties and also learned through an NCIC background check that Wilson was under bond conditions and a temporary order of protection to keep away from a woman and man with whom he was in the presence of at this location.
36-year-old Eric James Cox of Oakley Road, Liberty is charged with public intoxication. His bond is $1,000 and he will make a court appearance June 9.
Sheriff Ray said that on May 22 a deputy was dispatched to a residence on Toad Road where a man (Cox) came onto the property and began beating on the door, trying to get into the house. He was also yelling and cursing. Upon arrival the officer found Cox standing in the driveway. He was heavily intoxicated and irate.
