Alexandria Police Department Has Three New Officers

The Alexandria Police Department has three new officers.

During Tuesday night’s regular monthly meeting, the Alexandria Aldermen hired a full time and two part time officers at the request of Chief Kenneth (K.D.) Smith.

Max Goodpasture of Clarkrange has 35 years of law enforcement experience. He is retired from the Fentress County Sheriff’s Department and formerly served as Police Chief at Gainesboro. He will be serving in a full-time role.

Vincent Turocy of Hendersonville has a law enforcement background spanning 27 years. He is a retired lieutenant with the Tennessee Highway Patrol (Nashville District) and will be working part time.

John Jenkins has been in law enforcement for 25 plus years. He served as a full-time officer with the Gordonsville Police Department. Jenkins will serve in a part time position with the Alexandria Police Department and part time with DeKalb EMS.

During the meeting, City Attorney Vester Parsley administered the oath of office to the new police officers.

Veronica Dodge of Sparta, hired last month as a police officer, has already resigned.




County Commission Reorganizes

County Mayor Matt Adcock was Re-elected Chairman of the DeKalb County Commission Monday night.

Sixth district commissioner Jeff Barnes, the longest serving member of the commission at 22 years, was returned as Chairman Pro Temp. Barnes would preside over county commission meetings in the absence of the chairman.

The county commission reorganizes each September naming a chairman and chairman pro temp to serve for the ensuing 12 months.

In other business, the commission approved the county mayor’s committee appointments as follows:

Budget Committee: Jeff Barnes (Committee Chairman), Mathias Anderson (Vice Chairman), and Sabrina Farler, Glynn Merriman, Tony (Cully) Culwell, Tony Luna, and Tom Chandler.

Audit Committee: Tom Janney (citizen member), Andy Pack, Myron Rhody, and Daniel Cripps.

Community Economic Development: Tony Luna (Chairman), Greg Matthews (Vice Chairman), Beth Pafford, Andy Pack, and Susannah Cripps.

UT Agriculture Extension Committee: Tony Culwell and Tony Luna

Revenue Research Committee: Larry Green (Chairman), Andy Pack (Vice Chairman), and Mathias Anderson.

Purchasing Committee: Matt Adcock (County Mayor), Danny Hale (Road Supervisor), Patrick Cripps (Director of Schools), Myron Rhody, Larry Green, and Jeff Barnes.

Public Works Committee: Glynn Merriman (Chairman), Andy Pack (Vice Chairman), Sabrina Farler, Tom Chandler, Mathias Anderson, Susannah Cripps, and Myron Rhody.

Health, Education, and Public Welfare Committee: Larry Green (Chairman), Tom Chandler (Vice Chairman), Jeff Barnes, Mathias Anderson, Glynn Merriman, Myron Rhody, and Daniel Cripps.

Government Services Committee: Sabrina Farler (Chairman), Daniel Cripps (Vice Chairman), Larry Green, Greg Matthews, and Tom Chandler.

Cong. John Rose to Headline Make America Great Again Picnic on Saturday

Sixth District Tennessee Congressman John Rose will be the keynote speaker at the 2024 Make America Great Again-MAGA Picnic this Saturday, September 28, 2024, from 11AM-1PM at the DeKalb County Complex. The free event is sponsored by the DeKalb County Republican Party. State Senator Janice Bowling, and our very own State Representative Michael Hale will also address attendees. There will be free BBQ from Fireman One while it lasts.

“It’s a great time to be a Conservative in DeKalb County, and we’re excited to get out and vote for President Trump this fall,” said Ryan Mollinet, Chairman of the DeKalb County Republican Party. “Congressman Rose has been a strong supporter of President Trump, and we’re honored to have him keynote our 2024 MAGA Picnic. This event is a great way to kick off the fall election and prepare voters for early voting, and election day. We will also have Trump yard signs and stickers available, as well as yard signs for all our Republican candidates. So come on out this Saturday and help us Make America Great Again!”
