Final Youth Sportsman Hunt for Season Today and Tomorrow (January 8 & 9)

January 8, 2022
By: Dwayne Page

The final Tennessee young sportsman deer hunt for the 2021-22 season will be held this weekend January 8-9. Youth ages 6-16 may participate. Participating youth can use gun, muzzleloader, or archery equipment.

“The young sportsmen are allowed two antlerless deer (total of two) for both young sportsmen hunts combined,” said TWRA Officer Tony Cross. “For example, if you killed two antlerless deer during the first young sportsman hunt last fall you would not be able to take another antlerless deer this weekend. But if you haven’t already killed two bucks for the season, you could take one buck per day up to two for the season,” said Officer Cross

Young sportsmen must be accompanied by a non-hunting adult, 21 or older who must remain in position to take immediate control of the hunting device. The adult must also comply with the fluorescent orange regulations as specified for legal hunters. Multiple youth may be accompanied by a single qualifying adult.
