DeKalb Local Option Sales Tax Collections Remain Strong

DeKalb County’s share of local option sales tax collections for October 2021 outperformed the same month in 2020 by more than $8,400 according to the Tennessee Department of Revenue. For the county and the four cities therein combined collections were up by more than $24,000.

According to the report, DeKalb County brought in $146,377 in October 2021 compared to $137,940 for October 2020.

All four cities within DeKalb County also hauled in more local option sales tax revenue.

The comparisons between the two months for each municipality are as follows:

Smithville: $319,172 (October, 2021), $313,747 (October 2020)

Alexandria: $36, 368 (October, 2021), $28,171 (October 2020)

Dowelltown: $2,818 (October, 2021), $1,983 (October, 2020)

Liberty: $8,519 (October, 2021), $7,221 (October, 2020)

NET COLLECTIONS (LOCAL OPTION SALES TAX): $513,255 (October, 2021), $489,064 (October, 2020)

Jared Davis remains the leader on WJLE’s Fearless Forecasters panel picking winners as the college football season enters its 13th and final week for the regular season.

Jared has an overall record of 117-63.

Eli Gill and John Pryor joined Jared Davis in a tie for the best single week record last week at 10-5 followed by Scott Goodwin and Scott Brown each at 9-6, and Grant James, Ricky Atnip, and Chad Kirby each at 8-7.

Overall, Chad Kirby remains in second place after 12 weeks at 114-66 followed by Grant James 111-69, Eli Gill 109-71, Ricky Atnip 108-72, Scott Brown 107-73, Scott Goodwin 104-76, and John Pryor 103-77.

Only one of the Forecasters hit his underdog pick last week. Chad Kirby picked up 7.5 points as South Carolina upset Auburn 21-17.

Jared Davis maintains his lead for the most underdog points after 12 weeks at 44 followed by Chad Kirby 30.5, Ricky Atnip 26, Grant James 20, Scott Brown 11.5, Eli Gill 7, Scott Goodwin 6, and John Pryor 5.5.

Today (Wednesday) the Forecasters will be picking winners in the following games:

Ohio State at Michigan, Oklahoma at Oklahoma State, Penn State at Michigan State, Oregon State at Oregon, Wisconsin at Minnesota, Western Kentucky at Marshall, Boise State at San Diego State, Clemson at South Carolina, Florida State at Florida, Missouri at Arkansas, Alabama at Auburn, Ole Miss at Mississippi State, Texas A&M at LSU, Vanderbilt at Tennessee and in the NFL the Tennessee Titans at the New England Patriots.

Tigers Beat Cannon County in Double Overtime Thriller. Lady Tigers Also Win

A barnburner in Smithville Tuesday night as the DeKalb County Tigers and Cannon County Lions slugged it out into double overtime before the Tigers prevailed winning 79 to 77. The Lady Tigers also won beating the Lionettes 78 to 69.

Both the Tigers and Lady Tigers are now 3-0 with a trip to Warren County next on the schedule Friday night, November 26. The girls game starts at 6 p.m. followed by the boy’s game. WJLE will have LIVE coverage.

The Tigers took a 17 to 10 lead over the Lions after the 1st period and held a 37 to 27 advantage by halftime. The Lions cut the Tiger lead to 50 to 48 at the end of the 3rd period and outscored DC by a bucket in the 4th period to send the game into overtime tied at 59. Each team scored 9 points in the first overtime and the game was tied at 68 heading into the second overtime. From there, the Tigers outscored the Lions 11 to 9 to claim a 79 to 77 victory.

Conner Close led the Tigers in scoring with 23 points followed by Robert Wheeler 16, Elishah Ramos 14, Jordan Young 11, Stetson Agee 10, and Brayden Antoniak with 5.

In the nightcap, the Lady Tigers took a 21 to 12 lead over Cannon County after the 1st period and led 39 to 26 at halftime and 55 to 42 after the 3rd period before going onto win 78 to 69.

Kadee Ferrell scored 34 points followed by Ella VanVranken with 20, Natalie Snipes 12, Dare Collins 7, Xharia Lyons 4 and Madison Martin with 1.
