Tigers Wins 21-20 in Overtime at Stone Memorial. DC to play at East Hamilton Next Friday in State Play-Offs

A missed extra point by the Stone Memorial Panthers in overtime handed the DeKalb County Tigers a 21-20 victory Friday night in Crossville in the regular season finale.

The Tigers (6-4, 3-2) finished the season in third place in Class 4A Region 4 and will travel to Chattanooga to meet the East Hamilton Hurricanes in the first round of the state play-offs Friday, November 5 at 6 p.m. (Smithville Time). The Hurricanes (8-2, 5-1) are the second place team in Class 4A Region 3.

DeKalb County had the only score of the first half Friday night. It came on a 7 yard touchdown pass from Tiger quarterback Briz Trapp to Isaac Knowles with 1:12 left in the 1st period. Axel Aranda came on for the extra point and DC led 7-0.

Stone Memorial tied the game with 3:10 left in the 3rd period on a 1 yard touchdown run by Hunter Heavilon. Ethan Lynch added the PAT and the score was 7-7.

The Tigers took the lead again with 8:06 left in the 4th period on a 23 yard touchdown pass from Briz Trapp to Isaac Knowles. Axel Aranda booted the extra point and DeKalb County held a 14-7 advantage.

The Panthers tied the game again with 1:24 left in regulation. After a Tiger turnover, Stone Memorial capped a 43 yard drive with a 4 yard touchdown by Bryant Carter. Ethan Lynch tacked on the extra point and score was 14-14.

DeKalb County grabbed the lead in overtime on a 1 yard touchdown run by Colby Barnes. Axel Aranda’s PAT was good and the Tigers went up 21-14.

Stone Memorial then scored on a 7 yard touchdown run by Bryant Carter but the PAT attempt by Ethan Lynch was no good and DeKalb County prevailed 21-20.




DeKalb Emergency Services Association to Deliver Thanksgiving Meals

The DeKalb Emergency Services Association (DESA) and volunteers will again be preparing and delivering Thanksgiving meals to the needy and underserved on Thursday, November 25th.

“We feel that this is just another way our local emergency service providers and our supporters can serve our community. If you or a family member would like a hot meal on Thanksgiving Day, please call one of our numbers listed to be added to the list. We need the address, phone number, and number of persons in your household,” said Association Spokesperson Blake Cantrell.

“We will meet at the county complex on Thanksgiving morning to cook, prepare, pack, and deliver meals to anyone who requests one in the DeKalb County area. Each plate lunch will consist of baked ham, mashed potatoes, green beans, roll, and a dessert.

DESA will accept names of persons requesting a meal through Monday, November 22. To get your name on the list call or text 615-390-0297, 615-712-4286, or 615-390-0189. Volunteers may call or text if you wish to help prepare or deliver the meals.

Smithville Boo Bash Winners Announced

Chamber Director Suzanne Williams has announced the winners of the Smithville Boo Bash Friday.

“Thanks to all the businesses and offices the Smithville Boo Bash was again this year a great success with special recognition to the Boo Bash coordinator, Beth Adcock and to Smithville Mayor Josh Miller,” said Williams.

The Smithville-DeKalb County Chamber of Commerce presented awards for Boo Bash “Best Costumes” and Boo Bash “Best Decorations” for participating businesses and offices.

Chamber Winners for “2021 Boo Bash Best Costumes” are:
•Tied for 1st Place – Circuit Court Clerk’s office “Scooby Doo & the Gang” and RealSource, LLC’s “Beetlejuice”
