Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) Conferred on Grant A. James of DeKalb County Insurance

The designation of Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) has been conferred on Grant A. James, Partner at DeKalb County Insurance, Inc. in Smithville, TN, following his successful completion of a rigorous insurance education program sponsored by the Society of Certified Insurance Counselors. This accomplishment is affirmed by the President of the Society of CIC, Dr. William T. Hold, Ph.D., CIC, CPCU, CLU. The full CIC credentials were sent to Mr. James on May 7, 2021 in official confirmation of the achievement.

The Society of CIC is a key member of The National Alliance for Insurance Education & Research, the nation’s preeminent provider of insurance and risk management education. The National Alliance conducts more than 2,500 programs annually throughout all 50 states, Virgin Islands, Mexico, Puerto Rico and around the world. This program is designed to serve a variety of individuals practicing insurance and risk management so that they may better serve their clients’ insurance and risk management requirements. Currently, more than 31,000 agents and insurance professionals throughout the country have received the CIC designation.

Mr. James has demonstrated his professional competence through the successful completion of the five CIC courses and the corresponding comprehensive examinations that focus on all major fields of insurance and insurance management, such as property and casualty, personal and commercial lines, commercial multiline, agency management, insurance company operations, life and health, and risk management.

Mr. James joins his uncle, Jeff James, as a Certified Insurance Counselor leaving DeKalb County Insurance, Inc. with two of only three Certified Insurance Counselors based in DeKalb County.




Baxter Man Critically Injured in Midnight Motorcycle Crash

A Baxter man was critically injured in a motorcycle crash late Saturday night on State Route 83 (Allen Ferry Road)

911 received the call at 11:35 p.m.

According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, 57 year old Scott T. Smith was east on Allen Ferry Road in the vicinity of the Herb Cottage riding a 2018 Harley Davidson motorcycle when the bike went off the right side of the roadway. Upon re-entering the highway, the motorcycle went out of control and began to slide. The bike slid across both lanes of the highway and came to rest in the westbound ditch line facing south.

Smith was wearing a helmet but seriously injured. He was transported from the scene to Ascension St. Thomas DeKalb Hospital by EMS and then airlifted to Vanderbilt Medical Center. The THP reports that as of Sunday afternoon, Smith was still hospitalized in critical but stable condition.




Birthday Celebration Turns Tragic for Spring Hill Man Who Died in Lake Accident

A 36 year old Spring Hill man, who had just celebrated a birthday, lost his life in a lake accident on Center Hill Lake Saturday.

Dead is Stephen Kyle Anderson.

DeKalb Central Dispatch (911) received the call at 2:36 p.m.

Sheriff Patrick Ray said that Anderson, his wife, and two other couples were on the lake celebrating Anderson’s birthday which was on Friday, May 21. Tragedy struck after Anderson decided to climb a rock bluff to jump off into the lake. While attempting to climb the bluff, the rocks Anderson were holding onto gave way and Anderson fell and rolled down the bluff hitting several rocks along the way before plunging into the water. TWRA was summoned and brought in an Aquatic Robot device from Chattanooga. With the robot, officers were able to locate Anderson’s body at a depth of approximately 165 feet. After the body was recovered the medical examiner ordered an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department Officers were assisted by other agencies including the TWRA, members from the Smithville/DeKalb County Rescue Squad, and Rangers from the US Corps of Engineers.
