TWRA Launches New Smartphone App with Enhanced Features

The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency is launching a new smartphone app, “TWRA on the Go,” with enhanced features to make it easier to hunt, fish, boat, and enjoy wildlife.

“We are always looking for ways to make it more convenient for those who enjoy the outdoors,” said Michael May, TWRA Assistant Director. “The new app makes it easy to go paperless and report your deer or turkey harvest with or without cell service.”

Android users can install the new app through Google Play. IPhone users may go through the regular Apple Store.

Users will have the ability to access a copy of their current license, store multiple licenses on one phone, buy licenses, check deer or turkey with or without cell phone service, see harvest data, access Tennessee rules and regulations, use geo-locating tools to enhance the recreational experience, and determine sunrise/sunset times based on GPS location.

Users will continue to have the opportunity to use features from the previous app. The “Stay Connected Page” provides easy access to TWRA’s newsroom and social media.

There is also an interactive map to find TWRA wildlife management areas (WMAs), physical check station locations, and duck blind locations. The “Hunter’s Backpack” is where hunter education courses, a summary of hunting seasons, and full versions of the agency hunting guides are available.

For anglers, “Fisherman’s Tacklebox” includes, fish identification, interactive maps to find boat ramp and fish access information, fish attractor locations, trout stocking locations, and trout stocking schedules.

On the app’s boating page, the “Boating Locker” includes boat regulations, safety checklists, boating education information, navigational aids, and recommended boating equipment.

For wildlife watchers, there is information about where to view wildlife across the state.

The County Clerk’s Office will not open on Tuesday, January 15 until 12 noon while the city makes a water line repair at the intersection of Bryant and College Streets. However the County Clerk’s Office will be open extended hours on Saturday, January 12 from 7 a.m. until noon and Monday, January 14 from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m.

Meanwhile the Assessor of Property, Register of Deeds, and County Trustee’s Offices will be open Tuesday, January 15 the regular time from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.

City water customers from 412 to 725 College Street (College Street Bridge to the IMI Ready Mix company) will be impacted as well as water customers on Snow Street, Oak Street, Bright Hill Street, Bryant Street, and Walker Drive.

According to officials of the city public works department, an 8 inch valve and tapping sleeve are being replaced in a leaking water line at the intersection of Bryant and College Streets.

Work will begin Tuesday morning, January 15 at 6 a.m.

“The City Water Department says the time water will be restored is unknown for Tuesday and could be as late as 12 noon. Due to this situation no water means neither employees or the public will have access to restrooms or hand washing in our office. Therefore the health and safety of employees and the public are at risk forcing the closure of the County Clerk’s Office until noon on Tuesday. Although we will be closed for a short period on Tuesday, we are extending our Saturday hours from 7 a.m. until noon January 12 and on Monday, January 14 from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m.,” said County Clerk James L. (Jimmy) Poss.

DeKalb West School has announced the winners of the Perfect Attendance awards for the first semester of the school year.

8^th Grader Gabby Wheatley had perfect attendance her first 9 weeks. She was one of 66 students with perfect attendance that were placed in a drawing for the top prize. The second 9 weeks of school 2^nd grader Maddux Pyburn was one of 37 students who had perfect attendance.

D-W-S Principal Sabrina Farler today (January 11) presented both students with a $20 Walmart gift card. Awards will be given out to students who have perfect attendance for the third and fourth 9 week school sessions. In May students who have maintained perfect attendance the entire school year will be honored with recognition and prizes including new bicycles.

Perfect attendance not only means students have shown up to school every day, it also means they have not been tardy and have not left school before the final bell rings.
