A drunk driver involved in a rollover crash Thursday afternoon wound up in jail on DUI and drug charges.
According to Trooper Robert Melching of the Tennessee Highway Patrol, 23 year old Cody Wayne Goad of Cookeville was traveling east on Highway 70 at Liberty in a Ford F150 when he crossed the center turning lane and two oncoming lanes of traffic before leaving the highway to the left and hitting a tree near the intersection at Tater Knob Road. The truck overturned and came to rest upside down after striking another tree. Although not seriously hurt, Goad was taken by DeKalb EMS to Ascension Saint Thomas DeKalb Hospital where he was treated and released to law enforcement.
Trooper Melching charged Goad with driving under the influence and failure to exercise due care. At the jail, officers found on him pills believed to be hydrocodone and xanax. He was charged with introduction of contraband into a penal institution.
