Community Bids Farewell to Coach Jerry Foster
August 17, 2018
By: Dwayne Page
Mourners gathered at the gymnasium of DeKalb County High School Friday afternoon to say goodbye to Jerry (Red) Foster during a celebration of life service.
The former basketball coach, star athlete, and physical education teacher at Northside Elementary School passed away Tuesday at his home after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was 59 years old.
It was Foster’s request that his memorial be held at the DCHS gym, where he taught school and coached the Lady Tiger basketball program from 1993-2000. School administrators honored the request.
Tributes including photos, flowers, and Foster’s retired high school jersey number were displayed on either side of his coffin at center court facing rows of chairs for those attending the service officiated by Phil Tollett and Bryan Simmons.
Following the service, Foster was laid to rest at the Peeled Chesnut Cemetery
Wilson Bank & Trust Helps Area Teachers Stock Up on Classroom Supplies

Following a summer collection drive that netted nearly $12,000 in supplies and donations, Wilson Bank & Trust gifted bags of free classroom items to about 400 teachers at offices throughout Middle Tennessee on Saturday, August 11.
Starting July 2, all WB&T branches accepted school supplies purchased by customers, employees and vendors. During last Saturday’s pick-up day, teachers had the opportunity to stop by offices in every county of the bank’s service area to receive a bag filled with items for their classrooms.
“While supporting local schools is an ongoing effort at WB&T, this project was an opportunity to specifically help teachers avoid some out-of-pocket expenses, and to thank them for everything they do for our communities,” Wilson Bank & Trust President John McDearman said. “The gratitude shown by so many teachers when they received their bags was a reward in itself for employees that participated in the giveaway day.”
A number of organizations joined the cause and helped stock the supplies provided to teachers. Businesses that contributed supplies or donations included American Solutions for Business; Baker’s School of Aeronautics; Bob Frensley Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram Fiat; Creative Graphics; Dollar General in Watertown; Everfi; Sanders Marketing Group; Sir Pizza in Murfreesboro; Unique Product Concepts; UT Extension in Wilson County; and Walmart in Smithville.
Wilson Bank & Trust (www.wilsonbank.com), member FDIC and an Equal Housing Lender, is a community bank established in 1987 to provide personal and professional service in a hometown setting. One of the top banks in the South in stability, products, technology, growth and earnings, WB&T currently operates 27 full-service offices in eight Middle Tennessee counties, offering a full range of financial products that include secondary market mortgage loans and mobile and online banking services.

“We lost a lot of seniors last year and we now have a small senior group and a small junior group this year and we do have a lot of new faces out here but they have worked. The two things I can say I like best about this team is that they do work and when we get on them a little bit they do respond. Hopefully we have gained some experience in that realm all through January and all through summer but with as many sophomores as we have and a couple of freshmen there will be some growing pain but if these guys continue working hard I think we will get better each and every week,” he said.
Coach Trapp will be joined on the sidelines this season by assistant coaches Clarence Trapp, Thomas Cagle, Toby Nokes , Brad Trapp, and Thomas Blumette.
As for Warren County, Coach Trapp said the Pioneers will be looking at this game as a winnable contest for them.

“They are going to be extremely hungry. They are in a tough district so they are going to come in here and feel like its an opportunity to start the season off with a win. Its our job to make them understand they are in a dogfight and we are not just going to lay over for them. It is a good border rival but I would like for us to take care of business tonight,” he said.
Coach Trapp’s record against Warren County is 6-7.
