A total of 1,228 people have cast ballots with one week left of early voting for the August 2 elections.

According to the election commission, 135 voted Saturday, July 21

Of the 1,228 total, 691 have voted in the State Republican Primary and 397 in the State Democratic Primary. A total of 139 have chosen not to vote in either primary just the County General.

A breakdown of voting by districts through Saturday, July 21 is as follows:

District 5: 195
District 6: 119
District 7: 190

Early voting runs Monday, July 23 through Saturday, July 28. Election Day is Thursday, Aug. 2.

Voting is being conducted on the first floor of the DeKalb County Courthouse.

Monday—1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Tuesday—9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Wednesday—9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Thursday—2 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Friday—9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Saturday—9 a.m. to noon.

A man who broke out of the DeKalb County Jail last November and was captured four days later appeared for sentencing in DeKalb County Criminal Court on Tuesday, July 17.

Judge David Patterson presided.

33 year old Bryon Ray Gibbs of 200 Gin Alley, Alexandria entered a plea to escape, aggravated assault (of an Alexandria Police Officer) and aggravated burglary (separate incident). He received a two year sentence for the escape to serve in the Tennessee Department of Correction. Gibbs also got a four year sentence in each of the other two cases on TDOC probation. The terms are to run consecutively. He was given jail credit from November 25, 2017 to July 17, 2018.

Gibbs and two other inmates, 39 year old Jack Mullican, Jr and 26 year old Daniel Trey Hamilton broke out of the jail annex on Tuesday night, November 21, 2017. They made their escape from the back of the jail annex through a door they apparently jimmied open.

Gibbs was spotted in Alexandria the following Saturday, November 25 and with the help of bystanders, he was taken into custody by Alexandria Police Officer Josh Arnold.

After being confronted, Gibbs resisted and began fighting with Arnold. Citizens who witnessed the scene came to the aid of the officer to help subdue Gibbs. Deputies and detectives of the Sheriff’s Department also responded to provide assistance.

Gibbs was charged by Alexandria Police with resisting arrest and aggravated assault.

Mullican was captured Wednesday morning, November 22 after being found in an underground water drain near Mapco Express. He became trapped there after making his escape. Hamilton was arrested in Fort Myers, Florida Tuesday, November 28 after being involved in a traffic accident there.

The aggravated burglary offense against Gibbs resulted from an August, 2017 home burglary on Pea Ridge Road.

Sheriff Patrick Ray said that on Thursday, August 31, 2017 Gibbs assisted in forcibly entering a residence on Pea Ridge Road and taking a black digital camera in a case and miscellaneous jewelry valued at $250. Entry was made by breaking out a glass window. The estimated damage was $200.
