Northside Student Wins Farm Bureau Women’s State Poster Contest

Northside Elementary 4th grade student, Yvette Chivers, daughter of Stephany Chivers, was awarded First Place in the Farm Bureau Women’s State Poster Contest. This announcement came on Saturday, April 21st during the 71st Annual Farm Bureau Women’s State Leadership Conference held at the TN Farm Bureau Building in Columbia, TN.

The subject of this year’s poster contest was “FARM TO FORK.” This is an annual contest to promote education in the use of agriculture in daily living and its effects on the economy. Yvette received a $200.00 cash prize.

Yvette is pictured third from left with her winning poster. All 4th Grade Students are eligible to enter this contest. DeKalb Farm Bureau wishes to thank all those who entered the contest and the school system for allowing us to promote this on our county level.




County Mayor Signs Proclamation Recognizing EMS Week

A week dedicated to celebrating emergency service workers is being recognized in DeKalb County.

The community relies on emergency workers to rush to the rescue, no matter what the circumstance.

County Mayor Tim Stribling has signed a proclamation designating May 20-26 as Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Week in DeKalb County. EMS Director Hoyte Hale joined County Mayor Stribling for the occasion.

The proclamation is as follows:

“Whereas, Emergency Medical Services is a vital public service; and

Whereas, the members of Emergency Medical Teams are ready to provide lifesaving care to those in need 24 hours a day, seven days a week; and

Whereas, access to quality Emergency Care dramatically improves the survival and recovery rate of those who experience sudden illness or injury; and

Whereas, the Emergency Medical Services system consists of emergency physicians, emergency nurses, emergency medical technicians, paramedics, firefighters, educators, administrators, and others; and

Whereas, the members of Emergency Medical Services teams, whether career or volunteer, engage in thousands of hours of specialized training and continuing education to enhance their lifesaving skills; and

Whereas, it is appropriate to recognize the value and the accomplishments of Emergency Medical Services providers by designating Emergency Medical Services Week;

Now, Therefore, I Tim Stribling, County Mayor, DeKalb County, Tennessee, in recognition of this event do hereby proclaim the week of May 20-26, 2018 as Emergency Medical Services Week.

With the theme, EMS, YOUR LIFE OUR MISSION, I encourage the community to observe this week with the appropriate programs, ceremonies, and activities”.

Tigerettes Fall to Sweetwater in Sub-State

The season ended for the DCHS Tigerettes Saturday with a 7 to 4 loss to Sweetwater in the Class AA Sub-State or Sectionals in Smithville.

Sweetwater scored 7 runs on 13 hits and made no errors. DeKalb County scored 4 runs on 6 hits and made no errors.

Sweetwater scored 1 run in the 1st inning and 3 runs in the 5th and 6th innings. DeKalb County scored 1 run in the 1st and 2nd innings and 2 runs in the 3rd inning.

Kenzie France was the losing pitcher.

Kenzie France had a homerun. Megan Walker had 2 singles. Jonie Robinson and Kenzie France singled and Kristena Bain had a double.

The Tigerettes conclude the season at 23-12 and 11-3 in the district. They won both the District and Regional Tournament Championships.
