DCHS Cross Country Team Competes at Siegel 2 Miler “Under the Stars”

The DeKalb High School cross country team competed in its first night race at the Siegel 2 Mile “Under the Stars” Invitational on August 20th.

The race hosted over 450 runners from across the state to compete in a 2-mile time trial on the track. It was a pre-season meet that gave cross country athletes a chance to lock in a fast 2-mile time before the 5K racing starts for the season!

DeKalb Prevention Coalition to Host Overdose Awareness Event Tonight (Thursday)

The DeKalb Prevention Coalition will host an observance Thursday, September 1 to show support for those struggling with substance abuse addiction and to honor and remember those who have lost the fight.

This “Overdose Awareness Event” will be from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the courthouse on the public square featuring LIVE music and refreshments and Free overdose reversal training for all. If you have a loved one who has passed due to an overdose, please bring a picture to honor their memory.

Guest speakers will be DeKalb County Mayor Matt Adcock,; Will Taylor, Faith-based Community Coordinator for Middle Tennessee ; and Justin Cantrell, Regional Overdose Prevention Specialist.

 




Smithville Mayor and Two Aldermen to Take Oath of Office Tonight (Thursday)

The Smithville Mayor and Aldermen-elect will be sworn into office to begin their new 4-year terms prior to a city council meeting tonight (Thursday, September 1) at city hall.

The swearing in ceremony will be at 5:30 p.m. followed by the regular monthly meeting at 6 p.m. The  meeting will be held tonight (September 1) instead of Monday, September 12 as had been scheduled.

Mayor Josh Miller is starting his second term while Alderman Beth Chandler will begin her first full term. She had been filling an unexpired term. Don Crook will also return to the board as Alderman for his first full term. He had a brief tenure on the board from 2018 to 2020 filling an unexpired term.

The meeting agenda is as follows: Mayor’s appointments of Boards and Committees; Bid awarding of sewer line rehab project; Board’s approval of new fireman hire; First Reading of Ordinance adopting Responsible Vendors Act; Water Study Proposal; Any other business properly brought before the Mayor and Board of Aldermen.
