DMS Golf Wins Last Home Match

The DeKalb Middle School golf team knocked off Watertown to complete their perfect home season record. The team did not lose a single match in the contest held at the Smithville Golf Course on Friday.

Bradley Hale, Carson Tramel, Jamison Troncoso, Abram Koegler and Cooper Goodwin competed for the boys team with Hale carding the low round of the match scoring a 45.

For the girls, Chloe Boyd and Emily Anderson defeated a very competitive Watertown pair for their first sweep of the year.

One road match at Algood is all that remains of the regular season and then the district tournament on May 2




Donations made to God’s Food Pantry and School Backpack Program

Representatives from Tennessee Farm Bureau, Tennessee Farmers’ Cooperative, and Farm Credit Mid-America/Rural 1st recently donated a total of $2,700 to God’s Food Pantry & the DeKalb Board of Education Backpack Program to provide meals to hungry kids in DeKalb County.

Funds were raised through the Shooting Hunger sporting clays shoots. Since 2015, Shooting Hunger events have provided more than two million meals to hungry Tennesseans. For more information visit www.shootinghunger.com.




Local Option Sales Tax Collections Remain Strong

DeKalb County’s share of local option sales tax collections for March 2022 were up by almost $14,000 compared to the same month in 2021 according to the Tennessee Department of Revenue while for the county and the four cities therein, combined collections were up by more than $68,000.

DeKalb County brought in $113,053 in March 2022 compared to $99,223 for March 2021.

Three of the four cities within DeKalb County took in more local option sales tax revenue in March compared to 2021. Alexandria was the exception.

The comparisons between the two months for each municipality are as follows:

Smithville: $315,019 (March 2022), $264,486 (March 2021)

Alexandria: $25,390 (March 2022), $26,214 (March 2021)

Dowelltown: $2,482 (March 2022), $2,473 (March 2021)

Liberty: $12,272 (March 2022), $7,385 (March 2021)

NET COLLECTIONS (LOCAL OPTION SALES TAX): $468,218 (March 2022), $399,784 (March 2021)

March sales tax collections reflect previous month activity.
