DeKalb Youth Excels in Tennessee Cattlewomen’s Youth Public Speaking Contest

The Tennessee CattleWomen’s Association (TCWA) hosted the 2 nd Annual Youth Public Speaking Contest on Jan. 28 during the annual Tennessee Cattlemen’s Association (TCA) Convention and Trade Show.

“The Tennessee CattleWomen’s Association is proud to host this leadership development opportunity for youth in the cattle industry,” said Madison Martin, TCWA President. “Public speaking is a skill we all use daily. The youth participants will use the skills learned in this contest for many years to come.”

Knox Logan from Dickson County received first-place in the Novice Division, and Curtis Bomar from Henry County placed second. Andrew Kirby of Dyer County received first-place in the Junior Division, and Jaclyn Thomas of Bledsoe County placed second. Ellie Hensley from Unicoi County received first-place in the Junior High Division, and Cali Agee from Dekalb County placed second. Eleanor Israel of Williamson County received first-place in the Senior High Division, and Taylor Cantrell of Dyer County placed second.

19 Tennessee youth competed in the public speaking contest. There was a Novice, Junior, Junior High, and Senior High division. The speech topic for each division was centered around beef production or the cattle industry.

The mission of TCWA is to promote the beef industry through advocacy and education as well as developing agriculture leadership. TCWA has approximately 100 members from across the state and the southeast.
