Body Found in Rubble of Mobile Home Fire

The Bomb and Arson division of the TBI along with the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department were on the scene of a mobile home fire this morning on Dale Ridge Road where a body was found amid the rubble.

Authorities have not released the name of the deceased.

The DeKalb County Volunteer Fire Department was summoned by 911 at 6:08 a.m. reporting a fully involved structure fire at 1383 Dale Ridge Road.. Members of the Liberty, Cookeville Highway, and Main Stations responded along with the Sheriff’s Office and DeKalb EMS.

Upon arrival firefighters found the mobile home fully in flames and learned that someone might still be inside. After extinguishing the blaze, firefighters discovered the remains of a body. TBI was contacted to assist the Sheriff’s Department in the investigation.

The cause of the fire has not been determined.

The body has been sent to the state medical examiner’s office for an autopsy.




2021 Summer Junior Ranger Program at Center Hill Lake

Looking for something to do with the kids during summer break? The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Center Hill Lake welcomes your up-and-coming 4th grader to attend the Junior Ranger Program.

The four day event from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. kicks off July 26th with the last day July 29th. A guardian is required to preregister their future 4th grader by e-mailing centerhilllake@usace.army.mil by July 21. The Junior Ranger program is limited to 10 spaces and is free of charge.

Please note the two hour daily event will be located at the Natural Resource Management Office at 158 Resource Lane Lancaster, TN 38569 and additional details on the weekly sessions can be found at facebook.com/centerhilllake.




Briana Ellis and Susan Frazier Hinton Crowned Queens of Tuesday Fair Pageants

The 2021 DeKalb County Fair’s Mrs. Fair Queen is 23 year old Briana Ellis of Smithville. The pageant was held Tuesday night

She succeeds the 2019 Queen 45 year old Suzanne Harrison of Smithville. There was no pageant last year due to COVID-19.

Ellis is the wife of Austin Ellis. Her greatest passion is helping others which is why becoming a nurse was an easy decision for her. On her days off, Briana loves spending time with her husband doing outdoor activities such as kayaking, fishing, and camping. In her future, she sees herself going back to school and becoming a registered nurse.

First runner-up was 35 year old Jana Beth Tripp of Alexandria who was also named Miss Congeniality

36 year old Andria Lee Graham of Smithville was 2nd Runner-Up and Most Photogenic

Meanwhile 69 year old Susan Frazier Hinton of Smithville was crowned Senior Fair Queen Tuesday night.

She succeeds the 2019 queen 57 year old Denise Page of Alexandria

Hinton is married to Jerry and they have eight grandchildren. She is a retired teacher of 48 years and was honored by the state legislature in 2020 for her service to the community. Hinton is a member of the First Baptist Church of Smithville and pianist. She is also a member of the Business and Professional Women’s Club, Study Club, DKG, (Honor Ed. Society), FCE, Red Hats, DeKalb Retired Teachers, International Literacy Volunteer, Relay for Life, Hospice, Imagination Library, Memorial and Veterans Day Programs, Chamber of Commerce, Youth Art Exhibit Chair, Annual Storytelling Day, and member of the 3 Parts Grace Gospel Singing Group.

74 year old Margie Williams of Alexandria was named first runner-up and Miss Congeniality while 65 year old Jeanette Adcock Mabe of Smithville was 2nd Runner-Up and named Most Photogenic.
