Four Apply to Succeed Judge David Patterson

The Trial Court Vacancy Commission will consider four candidates when it meets on May 21 in Cookeville to select nominees for the criminal court judge vacancy in the 13th Judicial District, which covers Clay, Cumberland, DeKalb, Overton, Pickett, Putnam, and White Counties. This vacancy was created by the upcoming retirement of the Honorable David A. Patterson, who will end his service effective June 30, 2019.

The applicants are:
Rebecca Brady of Cookeville
Wesley Thomas Bray of Cookeville
J. Michael Shipman of Cookeville
Jeffrey A. Vires of Crossville

The Trial Court Vacancy Commission will interview the applicants on May 21 at Tennessee Technological University, Whitson-Hester School of Nursing – Bell Hall, 10 W. 7th Street, Cookeville. The meeting will include a public hearing starting at 9 a.m. CDT, during which anyone may express their opinions in opposition to the applicants. The Commission is expected to vote immediately following the interviews and forward three names to Governor Bill Lee for his consideration.

DeKalb West Students Compete in Upper Cumberland Math Event

Twelve DeKalb West School students participated in the Upper Cumberland Mathematics Competition at Tennessee Tech on April 11. Teachers chose the following students to represent DWS: Bradley Pelham, Thomas Damron, Zoi Hale, Jourdyn Turbeville, Aly Griffith, Hudson Moss, Jackson Vantrease, Alex Antoniak, Tess Barton, Isaac Brown, Madison Martin, and Aniston Farler.

Two Injured in Head On Crash

Two women were injured in a head on crash Wednesday evening on Allens Chapel Road near the Smithville Municipal Airport.

The accident was investigated by the Smithville Police Department. Members of the Smithville Volunteer Fire Department and DeKalb EMS were also on the scene.

The crash involved an Infiniti QX50 and a Chrysler Town and Country.

Names were not immediately available
