DeKalb Neighbors Helping Neighbors Blood Drive Upcoming

A DeKalb County Neighbors Helping Neighbors Blood Assurance Drive will be Monday, February 18 from noon until 5:30 p.m. at the County Complex Senior Citizens Center inside the Bloodmobile.

All donors will be given a FREE “You Had Me at Donate” t-shirt. All donors will also be entered for a chance to win a $250 Zales gift card.

Blood Assurance is the sole blood provider for local hospitals.




WJLE’s Radio Shopper Airs Thursday Morning (January 24)

WJLE and participating local businesses are giving you a chance to bid on and buy dinners, clothes, furniture, and more at a discount in the RADIO SHOPPER on Thursday, January 24.

Starting at 8:00 a.m. WJLE will be opening up the phone lines for you to bid on various items from local businesses.

WJLE will set a minimum bid on each item and continue the bidding until the item is sold. The program on Thursday will be limited to four hours. If we have more items to sell, the program will resume on another day. For bidders, they have a chance to buy merchandise or services at a discount. For the businesses, they get ads on WJLE just for putting items up for bids

Man Breaks Into Home with Residents Inside

A man who broke into a house with the residents inside has been charged with aggravated burglary.

48 year old Richard Allen Tilley of Short Mountain Road, Smithville is under a $15,000 bond and his court date is February 7th.

Sheriff Patrick Ray said that on Saturday, January 19 Tilley entered a residence on Short Mountain Highway while it was occupied. The victim said that Tilley kicked open the door which was locked and entered screaming and making threats. Tilley did not have permission to be there.

37 year old Mark Denver Young of Barnes Mill Road is charged with theft of property. His bond is $5,000 and he will make a court appearance January 31.

Sheriff Ray said that on January 13 Young took a 22 ton Huskee log splitter from property on Barnes Mill Road without consent of the owner. Young admitted to taking the log splitter that day. The log splitter is valued at $600. It has been recovered.

The case was investigated by a sheriff’s department detective.
