A Rebel without a home!
The DeKalb Animal Shelter is in search of a forever home for “Rebel” the WJLE featured “Pet of the Week”.
“Rebel is two years old and his adoption fee is $200. He knows sit and stay commands and he loves everything outdoors whether its playing ball or catching a Frisbee. He loves it. He is a Pointer, German Wirehaired and weighs 46 pounds.
“Go to our website at https://www.dekalbanimalsheltertn.com/ and look for adoptable pets, select dogs, and you’ll find Rebel. When you click the link for Rebel you’ll find at the bottom of his profile the option to apply for adoption. Fill out that application and then come to meet him here,” added Cool.
The shelter is open Monday-Friday from 8 to 4 and Saturday from 8 to 12 at 186 Transfer Station Road. Phone 615-597-3647.
Two Local Blood Assurance Drives Set for Today (March 25)

Two Blood Assurance Drives are scheduled today (Monday, March 25)
The first blood drive will be Monday, March 25 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Ascension Saint Thomas DeKalb Hospital at 520 West Main Street, Smithville in the bloodmobile followed by a DeKalb County Neighbors Helping Neighbors blood drive the same day, Monday March 25 from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. at the Smithville Senior Center at 718 South Congress Boulevard, Smithville in the bloodmobile.

For the DeKalb County Neighbors Helping Neighbors blood drive you may schedule an appointment at www.bloodassurance.org/neighbors. You may also contact Jimmy Poss concerning the blood drive at 615-464-7426.
Remember to eat a good meal, drink extra water, avoid energy drinks and bring your ID. Blood Assurance is the sole blood provider for the local hospitals and your donation is needed for an adequate supply. One donation can save three lives.

DeKalb Local Option Sales Tax Collections for February Remained Strong

DeKalb County’s local option sales tax collections for February, 2024 were down compared to January and slightly below February 2023’s numbers.
According to the Tennessee Department of Revenue, DeKalb County collected $138,326 in local option sales taxes in February, 2024, which was down from $222,079 in January and under collections of $138,886 in February, 2023.
Smithville’s collections for February were $359,089, a decrease from $573,752 in January but up from $328,904 in February, 2023.
Alexandria’s local option sales tax collections stood at $30,420 in February, down from $32,635 in January but an increase from $28,383 in February, 2023.
Dowelltown’s collections for February were $4,428, up slightly from $4,318 in January and a significant increase from $2,890 in February, 2023.
Collections in Liberty stood at $9,948 in February, down from $13,933 in January and below collections of $12,749 in February, 2023.
Net collections for the county and cities combined for February were $542,212, a big drop from $846,718 in January, but up from $511,814 in February, 2023.
February collections reflect activity for the previous month.
