DCHS Quarterback Briz Trapp Nominated for 615 Preps “Miracle Auto Group Player of the Week”

Talented DCHS Senior Quarterback Briz Trapp is among the finalists for the 615 Preps “Miracle Auto Group” Player of the Week award for Week 8 of the high school football season. Trapp is in the running for the bragging rights honor based on his performance in last Friday’s night’s 42-10 victory over Cumberland County in Smithville. Trapp was 15-for-18 passing for 215 yards and five touchdowns and ran 12 times for 64 yards in the game.

Fans can cast their vote online at https://615preps.com/ until noon Central time on Wednesday, Oct. 11. Votes can be cast once a day.

Make sure to watch the Midstate :48 live each Wednesday at 7 p.m. on the YouTube channel to see who is selected as the winner. The 615 preps team submits their votes, and the fans’ poll winner gets one vote on the show as well.

If there’s a tie, the fans’ voting serves as the tiebreaker and the higher-finishing player in the poll wins.

New this season, 615 Preps is honoring a Line of the Week each week. Coach nominations are taken, and stats are considered to determine the finalists, and then your votes (and your votes alone) decide that winner.

Here are the finalists, in alphabetical order, for the Player of the Week award for Week 8:

Isaiah Groves, East Robertson: Groves ran for 181 yards and two touchdowns on 21 carries and caught three passes for 114 yards and two touchdowns in the Indians’ 35-0 victory over visiting Trousdale County.

Hicks Hunter, Sycamore: Hunter rushed for 329 yards and five touchdowns on 28 carries in the War Eagles’ 41-15 victory over visiting Cheatham County.

Logan Kinnard, FRA: Kinnard was 8-of-12 passing for 267 yards and four touchdowns in the Panthers’ 61-20 victory over visiting BGA.

Johnny Silvestri, Brentwood: Silvestri intercepted three passes and recovered a fumble in the Bruins’ 28-21 win at Centennial.

Briz Trapp, DeKalb County: Trapp was 15-for-18 passing for 215 yards and five touchdowns and ran 12 times for 64 yards in the Tigers’ 42-10 victory over visiting Cumberland County.

William Wiebush, Page: Wiebush returned a fumble and an interception for touchdowns and rushed for a touchdown in the Patriots’ 35-7 victory at Hillsboro.

Here are the finalists, in alphabetical order, for the Line of the Week award for Week 8:

Davidson Academy defense: The Bears held Webb School to 76 total yards, registered three sacks and Glenn Seabrooks returned an interception for a touchdown.

East Robertson offense: The Indians rolled up 461 yards of total offense (347 rushing, 114 passing) in their win over Trousdale County.

Macon County defense: The Tigers held Livingston Academy to 104 total yards and seven first downs with a sack, a fumble recovery and seven tackles for a loss.

Nolensville defense: The Knights held James Lawson to 84 total yards in their shutout victory, registering four sacks and a forced fumble.

Springfield defense: The Yellow Jackets held Hunters Lane to 127 yards of total offense with a fumble recovery, five sacks and seven tackles for a loss in their 14-7 victory.

On Saturday, October 7, 2023 DeKalb County’s Senior Outdoor Meat Cookery team traveled to 4-H State Fall Judging Day in Knoxville, TN located on The University of Tennessee’s Campus.

The team consisted of DeKalb County Seniors: Paul Oliver, Lilly Waggoner, Avalynn Smullen, and Riley Fuson. The team was coached by Johnny Barnes, DeKalb UT/TSU Extension County Director/Ag. Agent and UT Extension Agent Mykaela Young. Each team member had the opportunity to grill different meats including beef, chicken/poultry, pork, and lamb.

Avalynn Smullen placed 1st in the state in beef and Lilly Waggoner placed 1st in the state in chicken/poultry and will have the opportunity to compete at Nationals in Louisville, KY in November. Riley Fuson placed 5th in the state in pork and Paul Oliver placed 7th in the state in lamb. Overall, DeKalb beat out 8 teams from across Tennessee, to win First place in the state!

This is the 3rd time this group of students has competed together at the State competition, but the first time they have come out with a First-Place win!

“I felt accomplished winning first place this year, after failing to win the contest the past two years,” said Paul Oliver.

“At first when they were doing the announcements, I wasn’t sure how we were going to do, but when they called DeKalb County for First Place I was thrilled! It was such an excitement to win first place in my senior year,” said Lilly Waggoner.

“Winning was a great feeling of accomplishment. Knowing the team worked so hard for years makes the win even sweeter!,” said Avalynn Smullen.

“I felt accomplished winning first place in the state after spending many hours practicing for the competition,” added Riley Fuson.

The UT/TSU Extension office and all of DeKalb County are so proud of our DeKalb 4-H Grilling team! They have worked hard to come back from a disappointing placement at the regional competition to becoming Tennessee State Champions!

If your child is interested in joining the DeKalb County 4-H grilling team, a junior division is made up of 6th-8th grade students (as of Jan. 1) and a senior division consists of 9th-12th grade students (as of Jan. 1). Students learn how to start their own charcoal grill, fire safety, food preparation and safety, and how to grill different meats. This is a wonderful skill that these students learn and will have the opportunity to use throughout their lives! The Alexandria Police Department is happy to announce the newest officer of the department. K-9 Manci will work with her handler, Officer Brandon Deffendoll. Manci is a 3-year-old German Shepard trained and certified in narcotics detection.

“The Town of Alexandria is happy to welcome Manci to the department,” said Police Chief Travis Bryant. “Officer Deffendoll has been dedicated to the detection and removal of narcotics from our town. Officer Deffendoll and K-9 Manci are certified through the National Narcotic Detector Dog Association (NNDDA) and Drug Beat K-9. Officer Deffendoll and K-9 Manci train weekly and have proven themselves to be a valuable tool in the department’s efforts to reduce the amount of drugs in the community. K-9 Manci has an excellent track record for recoveries and has already been successful in Alexandria”

“The Alexandria Police Department has remained committed to working for the citizens of Alexandria and DeKalb County by providing assistance to our sister agencies when needed,” added Chief Bryant.
