Three Dogs Perish in Suspicious House Fire

The DeKalb County Fire Department was dispatched to a house fire on Seven Springs Road Thursday night at approximately 8:21 p.m. Sheriff’s Department deputies discovered the fire when they attempted to serve a legal notice on a person that had reportedly been staying at the residence.
Firefighters quickly arrived on the scene and extinguished the fire that was contained to a bedroom. The remainder of the residence received heat and smoke damage. No one was at the home when the residence was searched, but three dogs were found that had succumbed to smoke inhalation.
Due to the suspicious elements of the incident, investigation was turned over to the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department and Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.
The Belk, Four Seasons, Short Mountain, and Main stations responded to the scene along with DeKalb Emergency Medical Services, DeKalb County Sheriff’s Dept., and Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.
Buzzer Beater Gives Lady Tigers District Win at Stone Memorial but Panthers Too Much for Tigers to Handle

The DCHS Lady Tigers won their district opener at Crossville Friday night beating Stone Memorial 57 to 55 on a buzzer beater by Ella VanVranken but the Panthers were too much for the Tigers to handle and DC fell 81 to 47.
The DCHS teams will host White County Tuesday night, December 13 and Cannon County Friday night, December 16. Action each night starts with the girls game at 6 p.m. followed by the boys game and WJLE will have LIVE coverage.
Both the Tigers and Lady Tigers are now 6-2 overall.
In the girls game, Stone Memorial took a 22 to 14 lead by the end of the 1st period and held a 33 to 30 edge by halftime but the Lady Tigers rallied for a 40 to 37 advantage after the 3rd period and went onto win 57 to 55.
Ella VanVranken led with 14 points followed by Chloe VanVranken with 11, Maddison Martin and Avery Agee each with 10, Tess Barton 6, Dare Collins 4, and Cadee Griffith with 2.
The Tigers trailed the Panthers 17 to 14 after the 1st period, 42 to 24 at halftime, and 61 to 36 after the 3rd period before falling 81 to 47 to Stone Memorial
Conner Close led the Tigers with 13 points followed by Robert Wheeler, Ean Jones, Alex Antoniak, and Seth Fuson each with 6, Zack Birmingham, Kaleb Spears and John Hendrix each had 3 and Elishah Ramos with 1.

Snow and Mistletoe Ready for Adoption in Time for Christmas at DeKalb Animal Shelter (View video here)

What’s better than having one lovable dog? How about two loveable dogs or maybe seven?
Meet “Snow” and “Mistletoe”, two of a seven litter crew at the DeKalb Animal Shelter. Both “Snow”, a male and “Mistletoe”, his female sibling are available now for adoption and they are the WJLE featured “Pets of the Week”.
The other siblings are Pine, Claus, Elf, Pie, and Gingerbread
“These three-month-old Catahoula Leopard Dog / Rottweilers are ready to go in time for Christmas. They have been spayed or neutered and are up to date on their vaccinations. These are truly super sweet puppies so if you are looking for a puppy for the holidays come see us. Their adoption fee is $180,” said DeKalb Animal Shelter Director Emmaly Bennett.
“Visit our website at https://www.dekalbanimalsheltertn.com/ to see their pictures, fill out an adoption application and we will call you to come in and meet them,” said Bennett.
The shelter is open Monday-Friday from 8 to 4 and Saturday from 8 to 12 at 186 Transfer Station Road.
