The purpose of the meeting is to keep residents and taxpayers of the 4th district up to date on issues coming before the county commission and to get public input. Both Matthews and Culwell will take questions and listen to any complaints, concerns, or comments you may have.

Red Ribbon Week raises awareness of drug use and the problems related to drugs facing our community, and encourages parents, educators, business owners, and other community organizations to promote drug-free lifestyles.
The Red Ribbon Campaign is the oldest and largest drug prevention program in the nation, reaching millions of young people during Red Ribbon Week with the message to choose a healthy lifestyle.
In 1985, Drug Enforcement Administration Special Agent Enrique S. “Kiki” Camarena was killed by drug traffickers. Shortly after his death, citizens from his hometown of Calexico, California, began wearing red ribbons to remember him and commemorate his sacrifice.
The first official Red Ribbon Week celebration was created by the National Family Partnership in 1988. NFP continues to coordinate the campaign for families, schools and communities across the nation each year. Since then, the red ribbon has symbolized a continuing commitment to reducing the demand for illicit drugs in our communities.
Security Vestibule Completed at Smithville Elementary School

All five DeKalb County Schools now have security vestibules to enhance safety of students and staff.
The latest and last vestibule was completed over the fall break at Smithville Elementary School. Others were previously added at DCHS, Northside Elementary, DeKalb Middle, and DeKalb West School.
While visitors to the schools are already locked out and must press a button at the front entrance to be allowed inside and for them to sign in, there was previously no other security barrier or confined area to keep people from roaming the halls before being received by office staff, teacher, or principal.
Security vestibules changed that by creating a secure space for additional protection. Once a visitor has signed in and been identified as an authorized visitor, the doors from the sign-in area to the school are electronically unlocked.
The DeKalb County School District in recent years has taken steps at each school to tighten security including the addition of school resource officers, surveillance cameras, safety sphere balls (at some schools) to guard against someone crashing through the entrance with an automobile, key fobs (high school) along with the security vestibules.
