DeKalb West Announces Students of the Month

DeKalb West School wants to congratulate our Students of the Month for February. Teachers selected the following students for the honor: Asher Desimone, PreK; Gabriel Djangirov, Kindergarten, Abigail Burlingame, 1^st grade, Jenna Burlingame, 2^nd grade, Jace Peterson, 3^rd grade, Miah Johnson, 4^th grade, Izzy Hendrixson, 5^th grade, Christian Hale, 6^th grade, Blair Gipe, 7^th grade, and Wesley Wright, 8^th grade. Students are chosen for Student of the Month based on their academic record, character, and other traits that make them an outstanding student.

The DCHS Tigers advance in the District Tournament after eliminating the Cannon County Lions 57 to 40 Tuesday night at Tennessee Tech.

The Tigers will meet the 3^rd seeded Upperman Bees Wednesday night, February 13 at 7:30 p.m. at Cookeville High School. WJLE will have LIVE coverage.

After trailing the Lions 6 to 5 at the end of the 1^st period, the Tigers grabbed a 23 to 17 halftime lead and held a 37 to 28 advantage after the 3^rd period before going onto win 57 to 40.

Colter Norris scored 14, Dallas Cook 11, Nathan Atkins and Tanner Poss each with 9, Hayden Thomas 8, Dakota White 5, and Evan Jones with 1.

Meanwhile the DCHS Lady Tigers will play their first game in the tournament Wednesday, February 13 at 6 p.m. against the 7^th seeded Smith County Owlettes at Cookeville High School. WJLE will have LIVE coverage.

Girls: York Institute defeated Cannon County 59 to 54

Boys: Watertown defeated Macon County 68 to 64

Boys: DeKalb County defeated Cannon County 57 to 40

The DCHS Tigers will be facing the Cannon County Lions for the fourth time this season tonight in the District 8AA basketball tournament at Tennessee Tech.

The game tips off at 5 p.m. from Hooper Eblen Center and WJLE will have LIVE coverage with the Voice of the Tigers John Pryor. Listen for Tiger Talk at 4:40 p.m. as John Pryor interviews Tiger Coach John Sanders and Lady Tiger Coach Danny Fish along with Tiger player Tanner Poss and Lady Tiger player Joni Robinson.

The Tigers have lost all three meetings with Cannon County this season including a 48 to 33 defeat at Woodbury on December 11, a 52 to 46 loss in the Watertown Christmas Tournament on December 21, and a 66 to 50 loss in Smithville on January 28.

The Tigers enter the district tournament as the 7^th seed with a record of 5-22 (4-10) in district play while Cannon County is seeded 6^th with a 12-16 record and a district finish of 5-9.

“We definitely know who we have to guard and limit their scoring opportunities. We’re going to try to change up our defense a little bit and hopefully put more pressure on them. Hopefully that will translate into a win. We feel like that is the best route to go. It will be a little different than what we have done against them in the last three games,” said Tiger Coach John Sanders.

In Monday night’s District Tournament games, the Cannon County girls eliminated Livingston Academy 54 to 39, the Smith County girls ended Watertown’s season with a 57 to 52 win, and the Macon County boys eliminated Smith County 48 to 31.
