Local Church Lends Helping Hand to Needy Neighbors

Dozens of people from the Smithville Church of Christ are rolling up their sleeves and pitching in to help show their Christian love for others during the congregation’s annual Work Camp being held through Thursday this week.
The church began the work camp a few years ago as a means of helping less fortunate residents of the county do some fix up and cleanup projects around their homes.
“It’s a ministry of the church where the folks in our congregation raise money all year to be able to go out in the community and do odd jobs for those that just need help. Its for folks who are elderly or those who have limited resources and can’t get other people to do things for them. We do that. We pressure wash people’s houses, cut up tree limbs, and do odd jobs. One of the things we found that we have been able to have a ministry with is building handicapped ramps for folks. We have five ramps we’re going to build this year for those who can’t do it otherwise. They are in a wheelchair and need help getting in and out of their house. It’s just a ministry of the church,” said spokesperson Casey Midgett

The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department needs your help in identifying the person responsible for a burglary and theft at a local business last month.
Sheriff Patrick Ray said that on Wednesday, May 23 at 2:04 a.m. deputies were dispatched to Twisted Oaks at 3349 Nashville Highway, Dowelltown (top of Snow Hill) due to an alarm call. Three minutes after being dispatched, the officers arrived and discovered that someone had entered the building and taken some cash. They viewed video from the security cameras at the business and saw images of a heavy set man believed to have been responsible for the crime. Although they have investigated leads in the case the man has not yet been identified and arrested.
If you can identify the man shown in the photos above call 615-597-4935 and ask for Sheriff Ray or Detective Brian Williams.
Repair Crews Working to Restore Water Service to Liberty Customers

Repair crews of the Dowelltown-Liberty Water System have been busy since Sunday searching for a water line break which resulted in an interruption of service for many customers in the Liberty area.
At last report the break had not been discovered but is believed to be on the Liberty side of the service area. Dowelltown customers, though unaffected by the loss of service, may have encountered lower water pressure. The work crews are tracing the water lines a section at a time to find the source of the problem.
Until the break is found and fixed, the Dowelltown-Liberty Water utility will be serving customers in the Liberty area via an emergency tap from the DeKalb Utility District.
