Shaun Tubbs Re-Elected Chairman of School Board

Seventh District member Shaun Tubbs has been re-elected Chairman of the DeKalb County Board of Education.

During Thursday night’s regular monthly meeting, Tubbs was again selected by his fellow board members to serve as chairman for the next twelve months.

Meanwhile, Third district member Jim Beshearse was re-elected Vice Chairman of the Board while Sixth District member Jason Miller will again serve as the board’s Tennessee Legislative Network (TLN) representative.

The board re-organizes each September electing officers to serve for the year.

In his monthly personnel report, Director Patrick Cripps announced the resignation of Aaron Shirah, SPED Consulting teacher.

The following personnel have been granted a leave of absence as requested: Gabby Robinson, Sarah Storey, and Seth Willoughby.




WJLE’s Fearless Forecasters College Football Talk Show Airs Today (Thursday) at 4:30 p.m.

Scott Goodwin and Dewain Hendrixson have taken the lead among WJLE’s Fearless Forecasters picking college football winners after the first two weeks of the season.

Overall Goodwin and Hendrixson are tied at 24-6 followed by Grant James of the James Gang, Ricky Atnip, Chad Kirby. Jared Davis, and John Pryor each at 23-7. Darrell Gill of the Gill Gang is next at 22-8, and Scott Brown at 21-9.

For the week, Chad Kirby, Scott Goodwin, and Dewain Hendrixson tied for the best record at 12-3 followed by Darrell Gill, Grant James, Ricky Atnip, Scott Brown, and Jared Davis each with 11-4 and John Pryor 10-5

Four Fearless Forecasters hit their underdog picks last week. Jared Davis added to his lead with 7 points as Texas upset Alabama 34-24. Ricky Atnip got on the board with 7.5 points as Cincinnati defeated Pittsburgh 27-21. Chad Kirby picked up 6.5 points as Washington State knocked off Wisconsin 31-22, and Dewain Hendrixson got 4.5 points with Miami’s win over Texas A&M 48-33

Overall, Jared Davis leads in underdog points with 27.5 followed by Ricky Atnip with 7.5, Chad Kirby 6.5, Dewain Hendrixson 4.5, and John Pryor with 2.5

Today (Thursday) the Forecasters will be picking winners in the following games:

Missing Smithville Child Has Been Found Safe in Byrdstown

The TBI Endangered Child Alert issued for six-year-old Jameson Dean Ferrell of Smithville has been cancelled. The child has been found safe in Byrdstown.

The initial report stated that Jameson might have been with his non-custodial mother and traveling in a white 2018 Hyundai Sonata, with TN tag 846-BLNY.
