“Lottie” has lots of love to give!

Meet “Lottie” today at the DeKalb Animal Shelter. “Lottie “ is the WJLE featured Pet of the Week!

“Lottie is a one- to two-year-old mixed breed. She is the perfect size, and she has been fixed. Lottie is up to date on all her vaccinations and has been micro-chipped with flea prevention on board. Lottie is one of the sponsored pets by our “friends of” organization so her adoption fee is only $80. She is working on sitting and staying commands and she has become really good on a leash. She has come a long way since she came here. Lottie is a great pet, but she does need to be the only pet in the household,” said shelter director Emmaly Bennett.

“If you are interested in adopting Lottie, please check out the adoptable pet’s link on our website to fill out an application at https://www.dekalbanimalsheltertn.com/ and we will call you to come in and meet her,” said Bennett.

The shelter is open Monday-Friday from 8 to 4 and Saturday from 8 to 12 at 186 Transfer Station Road. Phone 615-597-3647.

A fire Thursday morning destroyed a home on New Bildad Road.

DeKalb County Fire Chief Donny Green said although firefighters were alerted quickly after the blaze was discovered they could not save the structure.

“Thursday morning at approximately 5:30 a.m., DeKalb County Firefighters were called to New Bildad Road, near the DeKalb-Warren County line for a reported structure fire”.

“When fire crews arrived, the house was fully engulfed and walls collapsed. Firefighters quickly contained the fire to prevent spread to other nearby property. The homeowner was not at home and no one was injured. The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time,” said Chief Green.

DeKalb County Fire Department’s Belk Station, Short Mountain Station, and tanker truck responded, along with DeKalb County Emergency Medical Services and DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department.

Smithville FBC to Start Preschool

Smithville First Baptist Church will be starting a preschool in August.

Pastor Chad Ramsey said registration is underway for the new preschool which will begin on August 7.

“Its for kids from 18 months to pre-K age or the year leading up to kindergarten on Mondays and Wednesdays. Several preschools out there are operating on Tuesdays and Thursdays but we will do ours on Mondays and Wednesdays,” said Ramsey.

“We felt there was a need for more preschoolers in our community because several of those I talked to had waiting lists for their preschools. We believe the more kids who are getting that education and being prepped to go into kindergarten the better it is for them, their parents, and for educators alike”.

“One of the things I am excited about is the amount of experience our wonderful teachers have coming in. Many of them are educators in trade with degrees who want to work and do it for God. Everything we are going to do is focused on the kids. It’s centered on our Baptist beliefs and making sure these kids know their ABCs and know their Jesus,” said Ramsey.

“We still have openings in each of the classes. If you are interested contact the church or go to our website at www.smithvillefbc.org to get information about registration.
