Manning Charged with Second Degree Murder in Fatal Saturday Morning Shooting

A local man has been charged in a fatal shooting that occurred early this morning (Saturday) outside a residence on Kings Court Circle in the Midway Community.
According to Brian Williams, Chief Deputy of the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department, 56-year-old Thomas Dwayne Thomason suffered a gunshot wound outside in front of his home and died after being transported by DeKalb EMS from the scene to Ascension Saint Thomas DeKalb Hospital. The shooting was reported to Central Dispatch at 2:12 a.m. and a deputy was on the scene within minutes.
39-year-old Jarrett Manning of Ferrell Road, who was also on the scene at the time of the officer’s arrival, is believed to have been responsible for the shooting and has been charged with second degree murder. He is under a $500,000 bond and will make his first appearance in DeKalb County General Sessions Court on August 3.
Chief Deputy Williams said a handgun, believed to have been used in the shooting, has been recovered. No motive has yet been established but the investigation continues, and more charges may be pending.
In a prepared statement, Chief Deputy Williams said” On July 22 at 2:12 a.m. central dispatch received a call of shots fired at Kings Court Circle in Smithville. A deputy arrived within three minutes and noticed a man laying outside on the ground with a gunshot wound. Also, there was the suspect (Manning) who was detained at the time. EMS arrived and transported the victim to Ascension Saint Thomas DeKalb Hospital where he succumbed to the wound”.
Assisting Sheriff Patrick Ray, detectives and deputies of the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department with the investigation are the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, an Investigator of the 13th Judicial District Attorney’s General’s Office, and Assistant DA Greg Strong. The Smithville Police Department helped secure the scene.
Redmon Indicted in Warren County Murder Case

A local man has been indicted in a January Warren County murder case.
38-year-old Michael Brandon Redman and a co-defendant were named in a Warren County Grand Jury sealed indictment on July 14 charging them with second degree murder and aggravated assault in the death of 39-year-old Robin Lynn Crouch Emigh of Warren County.
The name of the co-defendant has not yet been released.
According to the indictment, obtained from the Warren County Circuit Court Clerk’s Office, “Michael Brandon Redmon, on or about the 27th day of January, 2023, did kill Robin Emigh, constituting the offense of Murder in the Second Degree, a Class “A” Felony”.
Count two against Redmon alleges that “On or about the 27th day of January, 2023 in Warren County and before the finding of this indictment, Redmon did commit an assault intentionally, knowingly or recklessly causing bodily injury to another, to wit: Robin Emigh, and the assault involved strangulation or attempted strangulation constituting the offense of Aggravated Assault, a Class “C” Felony”.
No other details concerning this case have been released.
DeKalb County finishes fiscal year strong in collection of local option sales taxes

DeKalb County closed out the 2022-23 fiscal year on a high note at least as far as collections of local option sales taxes is concerned.
According to the Tennessee Department of Revenue net collections for the month of June (DeKalb County and all four cities combined) were $633,472. It was the fourth best month of the year (2022-23) followed by August at $658,908, January at $656,624, and July at $634,274. June 2023 fell short of topping collections for June 2022 which were $641,626.
The following are the local option sales tax collections by month for DeKalb County and the Cities in DeKalb County for the 2022-23 fiscal year and which months were best for each:
