Mother-Daughter Cat Combo Ready for Adoption (View Video Here)

Those darn cats!

Missy and Bunnie are the cutest and sweetest and are now ready for adoption at the DeKalb Animal Shelter.

This mother and daughter combo are the WJLE/DeKalb Animal Shelter featured “Pets of the Week”.

Missy is seven years old and Bunnie is age six and while they don’t necessarily have to be adopted together, it would be nice since Bunnie has been with Missy all her life.

“They are super sweet and really quiet. They just want to lounge around and take naps all day and they are good with other cats. Both Missy and Bunnie have been spayed and they are up to date on everything,” said Shelter Director Emmaly Bennett.

“If you are interested in adopting Missy and Bunnie please check out the adoptable pet’s link on our website at https://www.dekalbanimalsheltertn.com/to fill out an application and see their picture and we will call you to come in and meet them. Please give us a call so we can find Missy and Bunnie a good home,” said Bennett.

The shelter is open Monday-Friday from 8 to 4 and Saturday from 8 to 12 at 186 Transfer Station Road. Phone 615-597-3647.

If they are not adopted by then, Missy and Bunnie will be at the DeKalb Animal Shelter’s Adopt a Silver Snoot Adoption Event on Saturday, March 25 from 10 a.m. until 12 noon at Tractor Supply on West Broad Street, Smithville.

Bridge Replacement Work on Lower Helton Road to Begin Monday, March 20

A bridge replacement project is scheduled to begin Monday, March 20 on Lower Helton Road in the Temperance Hall Community and because of that a portion of the road will be closed to through traffic.

Preston Brothers Construction of Woodbury was awarded the contract at $82,990 to be funded from the local road department budget.

Road Supervisor Danny Hale said the small bridge has become a safety concern and must be replaced.

“The end walls of the bridge are still good but we will have to tear out the floor and beams. This bridge has nine wooden beams under it. The beams are good but it was decked like an old wooden bridge and the decking has rotted out. We have had holes develop in it and its become dangerous. We will set new steel beams, new decking, new concrete, and new guardrails,” said Hale.

“It shouldn’t be that long of a project but we will have to shut the road down. I don’t like to do that because it will be an inconvenience and I am sorry for that but it is something we will have to do. It’s a safety hazard,” said Road Supervisor Hale.

Pavement Project on Barnes Mill Road Almost Completed

Barnes Mill Road has gotten a makeover!

Tinsley Asphalt Company of Tullahoma is about to complete a paving project there under a contract with the DeKalb County Highway Department.

Road Supervisor Danny Hale said 2.1 miles of Barnes Mill Road has been widened and repaved. The cost of the project is $404,000 funded from the local road department budget.

“We have widened the road to 19 feet and we are repaving the road. I wanted to do it last year but we didn’t have the funds at that time because we were paving the Corinth Church Road and Moores College Road. After the new budget rolled over and we had the money the contractors were tied up. Everything has finally come together, and we are getting it paved,” said Road Supervisor Hale.

“Tinsley usually gets the bid on our paving because we don’t have a paving machine and we have to contract it out. We have paved 2.1 miles of Barnes Mill Road. About one mile of the road in from Jefferson Road had already been paved (during a previous administration) but it was rough from there on out so we picked up the paving from there and went to the end of the road to Highway 288 (Belk Road) in the Antioch community,” said Road Supervisor Hale.
