Unlicensed Daycare Operator Indicted on Child Abuse Charges

A 24-year-old woman and unlicensed daycare operator has been indicted by the DeKalb County Grand Jury on charges of child abuse and aggravated child abuse of children ages 9 months and 13 months.
Karlee Madison Dickens, also known as Karlee Madison Wagner of Pack Circle, Smithville is being held without bond and will be arraigned in DeKalb County Criminal Court on April 10. She is indicted on one count of aggravated child abuse and two counts of child abuse.
In a statement to WJLE, District Attorney General Bryant Dunaway stated that “The DeKalb County Grand Jury met on April 3, 2023 and heard testimony regarding allegations of child abuse. The Grand Jury found probable cause that the criminal offenses were committed and issued a True Bill of Indictment charging Karlee Madison Dickens (also known as Karlee Madison Wagner), age 24 with the following offenses: Aggravated Child Abuse, a Class A felony by causing serious bodily injury to a child under the age of 8. And two (2) Counts of Child Abuse, each count being a Class D felony by causing injury to a child under 8 years of age. Karlee Madison Dickens (also known as Karlee Madison Wagner) was arrested on April 4, 2023 and booked into the DeKalb County Jail,” said DA Dunaway.
In the aggravated child abuse case, the indictment alleges that Dickens, AKA Wagner abused a nine-month-old child resulting in serious bodily injury on or about May 19, 2022 thereby committing the offense of aggravated child abuse. The child’s date of birth is July, 27, 2021.
In the two-count indictment for child abuse, Dickens AKA Wagner is alleged to have inflicted injury on a 13-month-old child between the dates of August 8-12, 2022 and on or about August 17, 2022 thereby committing the offense of child abuse. The child’s date of birth is July 2, 2021

The tradition continues!
Following in the footsteps of her two predecessors Danny Bond and Danny Fish, first year DCHS Tigerette Softball Coach Danielle Horton is off to a good start and guiding the program to what promises to be another successful season.
The 9-3 Tigerettes are also 4-1 in the district as of today (April 4). Its familiar territory for a program which has never had a losing season in its 38 year history.

Duke Indicted for Sexual Battery and Aggravated Assault

A man who allegedly sexually assaulted a woman in his vehicle before pushing her out and leaving her unconscious by the side of the road last November is among more than 20 people who were indicted by the DeKalb County Grand Jury Monday, April 3.
Devin Austin Duke is indicted for sexual battery and aggravated assault.
Duke and all others indicted yesterday will be arraigned Monday, April 10 in DeKalb County Criminal Court.
According to Smithville Police Chief Mark Collins, officers were summoned to South Mountain Street on November 3 to conduct a welfare check on a woman reported to be laying on the side of the road. She was found to be unresponsive and partially nude with scrapes and cuts on the right side of her head. Upon investigation, police learned that Duke had sexually assaulted the woman in his vehicle and then pushed her out of the automobile onto the side of the road once he realized she had become unconscious from an apparent overdose. The woman was wearing only a shirt and sweater.
Except for those named in sealed indictments, others indicted Monday, April 3 are as follows:
Michael Chad Owens- sale and delivery of a schedule I drug (Heroin) and sale and delivery of a schedule II drug (methamphetamine) in an amount under 0.5 grams
Nathan Joe Trapp-possession of a schedule II drug (methamphetamine) with intent to sell or deliver over 300 grams, possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Elijah Thomas Hall, Jeremie Donald Johnson, and Isaac Daniel Hall- reckless endangerment (2 counts), vandalism over $1,000, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Isaac Daniel Hall-aggravated burglary and theft of property over $2,500
Abigail Vogel-introduction of contraband into a penal facility
Cody Shane Detwiler and John Buyrl Neely- safe operating requirements, violation of boating operation requirements, and boat registration violation
Billy Nickolas Qualls- driving under the influence and DUI per se
Bradley Lynn Luna- possession of a schedule II drug (methamphetamine) over 0.5 grams with intent to sell or deliver and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony

Gary Christopher Ponder- sale and delivery of a schedule I drug (Heroin) (2 counts)
Julio Neisa Hernandez-Battle- aggravated assault

Mark Randall Robinson-fraudulent use of a credit card
Kimberly Michelle Ward-theft of property (shoplifting)
Jessica French Hale-theft of property (shoplifting) and criminal trespassing
Scotty Wayne Knowles- possession of a schedule II drug (ANPP) with intent to sell or deliver, possession of a schedule II drug (methamphetamine) over 0.5 grams with intent to sell or deliver, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
