February 8, 2021
By: Dwayne Page

The new Alexandria City Park Playground is now a reality and a ribbon cutting will be scheduled soon.

New equipment for the playground, including a blue plastic modular system featuring 2 slides, a rock-climbing wall, straight crawl tube, a 4-seat spring-mounted rocking Buck-A-Bout and more , was installed last week and funded by a Tennessee ThreeStar Grant awarded to DeKalb County last year. The playground area has borders, engineered wood fiber surfacing, and an inground bench for the adults to enjoy.

“We are so grateful for the Tennessee ThreeStar program. The new Alexandria City Park Playground is a great enhancement for DeKalb County and will be a fun place for families to visit and enjoy for many years to come,” said County Mayor Tim Stribling and Chamber Director Suzanne Williams who was also writer and administrator of the grant for this project.

“A big thank you to UT/TSU Extension Agent April Martin who headed up the Alexandria City Park Playground Committee, Alexandria Mayor Bennett Armstrong, Alexandria City Recorder Elizabeth Tetlow, Alexandria City Council, County Mayor Stribling, the DeKalb County Commission, as well as all the Alexandria moms and other local volunteers who provided valuable input on the playground design,” said Williams.

Plans are to continue fundraisers and seek other grants to expand the park with more playground equipment and to erect a sign.

The Alexandria City Park Playground area is located at 102 Fairgrounds Road, Alexandria behind the DeKalb County Fairgrounds.

Do you have unclaimed property? Find your missing money

You may have unclaimed money owed to you but don’t it.

1 in 10 Americans has unclaimed property waiting to be claimed!

Generally speaking, in Tennessee unclaimed property is intangible (examples: un-cashed paychecks, savings accounts)or tangible property (ex. safe deposit box contents), in which there has been no activity generated or contact with the owner for a one-year or longer period—at which point, it becomes unclaimed or “abandoned”.

Each year, the Tennessee Treasury  Department collects millions of dollars in unclaimed property and focuses on returning those properties to its owners through outreach efforts and its website.

Currently there’s over $976 million in Tennessee’s unclaimed property fund.

In fiscal year 2019, the Department returned a record-breaking 62,549 claims

Searching for your unclaimed property is a free service of the Tennessee Department of Treasury. If there’s a match, you can file a claim for your unclaimed property (with no fees) in three easy steps on its website
