2020-21 Season of “Vol Calls” Debuts Tonight (Wednesday)

“Vol Calls,” the official statewide call-in radio show for the University of Tennessee Volunteers, kicks off its 2020-21 season on Wednesday, Sept. 16, on location from Calhoun’s On the River in downtown Knoxville.

The one-hour show airs at 8 p.m. ET/7 p.m. CT across the state of Tennessee. Bob Kesling, the voice of the Tennessee Volunteers and UT’s director of broadcasting, serves as the show’s host and is joined by Vol Network veteran Brent Hubbs to answer questions and provide the latest news and information on Tennessee Athletics.

Weather permitting, the show will be held outside each week during the fall on the restaurant’s large outdoor patio deck overlooking the Tennessee River and Neyland Stadium. Head coach Jeremy Pruitt will make his show debut virtually on Sept. 23.

Calhoun’s and the Vol Network will adhere to the local health, safety and social distancing guidelines outlined in the state of Tennessee’s “Tennessee Pledge” plan. Following these safety guidelines, the radio broadcast position will be sectioned off and the seating areas socially distanced. Due to COVID-19, show hosts and guests will not sign autographs or pose for photos next to fans this fall.

Calhoun’s On the River returns as the home of “Vol Calls” for the ninth straight season. Famous for its award-winning ribs, BBQ and other delicious Southern dishes, Calhoun’s is one of Tennessee’s most popular restaurant destinations. The restaurant will give away special prizes each week during football season through its Facebook and Twitter (@calhouns) pages.

Celebrating 33 years as one of the oldest shows of its kind in the country, “Vol Calls” is the exclusive statewide radio show that allows Tennessee fans to call in and talk with the head coaches of the Volunteers.

DTC Annual Meeting Set for Saturday

DeKalb Telephone Cooperative, Inc. d/b/a DTC Communications will host its annual meeting on Saturday, Sept. 26, 2020, at the DeKalb County Fairgrounds in Alexandria.

DTC members will see changes due to the COVID-19 pandemic. DTC will follow the recommendations from the Tennessee Department of Health and Centers for Disease Control in addressing social distancing and safety measures for the well-being of DTC members and employees.

Directors will be elected in the Milton, Norene, and Woodbury exchanges. Incumbents Jim Vinson – Milton exchange, Terry McPeak – Norene exchange, and Brian Alexander – Woodbury exchange are running unopposed.

Voting for directors will take place at the cooperative’s annual meeting on Saturday, Sept. 26. Gates to the DeKalb County Fairgrounds in Alexandria will open at 8:45 a.m., with voting from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. The business meeting will begin at 11 a.m. or once the last person in line at that time has voted.

Only DTC members may vote, and each member must present proper photo identification. For a single membership, only that individual may vote. Either member of a joint membership may vote, but not both. In the case of a business membership, a business affidavit is required.

DeKalb County Library System Re-Opening Guidelines

The DeKalb County Libraries will re-open to the public on Monday, September 28th by appointment only. There will be safety guidelines that are to be followed by the library and the public as mandated by the CDC, State and Federal Government on the COVID-19 Pandemic.

“These guidelines are being implemented to ensure the safety and well-being of the community and our library staff and are subject to change depending upon the current health situation and regulations. We want to work with the public in providing as many services as possible in a safe and welcoming environment,” said Library Director Kathy Hendrixson.

This is a list of the guidelines that have to be followed in order for the libraries to re-open to the public.

The public can only enter Justin Potter Library from the side door next to the City Hall for their appointment. The front door is for Curb Side service only.

The patron will need to call and schedule an appointment time to enter the library. The appropriate amount of time will be allotted for their visit depending on the service that the patron requires.

The computer usage is limited to a one hour session per day. The first priority will be for those needing to apply for jobs, school work, census and unemployment sign up. There will only be two computers available for use at this time in order to keep social distancing. The computer keyboard and mouse will be cleaned between patron visits. One on one assistance is not available during this time. Wi-Fi is available outside the building 24/7.

Patrons will have an allotted amount of time to check out books and movies. There will be a limited number of people allowed in the library at one time. This way we can accommodate as many people as possible each day in a safe environment. All returned items need to be placed in the outside book drop before you enter the library. We will not accept returned items inside the library. Returned items will be quarantined for 72 hours before being checked out again.

Please help keep everyone inside safe by wearing a mask, having your temperature taken and honor social distancing guidelines when you enter the library. There will be hand sanitizer available for use by the door. Please stay home if you are ill or running a fever.

“We will continue to provide curbside service with copying, printing, faxing, book and movie pick up to those who are not able to meet these safety guidelines or that are concerned about entering the library. There may be parts of the library that have limited access due to the book sale, said Hendrixson

Justin Potter Library’s virtual and by appointment only book sale begins on September 28th. There will be guidelines in place that must be followed in order for the public do the in person book sale. This is to ensure the safety of the patrons and the staff.
