Smithville FBC Showing Compassion for the Community (View Video Here)

November 14, 2019
By: Bill Conger

Smithville First Baptist Church is reaching out to the people of DeKalb County with another Community Day this weekend. Doors will be open starting at 9 o’clock Saturday morning at the church’s Life Enrichment Center to provide food, coats and other winter clothing until 1 o’clock or everything is gone.

“Whatever income level you’re at, we’re here to say here it is; no strings attached,” says church pastor Chad Ramsey. ““You’ll get a full box for a holiday meal. That will include a voucher to get some ham later as it gets closer to the holidays for Thanksgiving. We’re going to give away everything we have. We’ll pray for you, let you know how much God loves you. We’re here for you too, but more importantly, that God is there for them always.”

“I felt like the Lord told me to do this,” Koblinsky told WJLE. “I feel called for home missions. I like to help the people locally more than far away. I like to see the joy and the happiness on their faces. It brings me self-satisfaction also knowing I’m doing the Lord’s work.”

“We see the needs just like Jesus saw the needs,” Ramsey says. “The scripture says over and over Jesus was moved to compassion, and we feel like through compassion that we have, we see needs in our community. This is one way to meet those needs.”

Smithville F-B-C members are putting feet to their faith by following their mission, “Love God, Love Others.”

“Smithville FBC continues to have a passion to reach our community to show them who Jesus is,” says Ramsey. “If we truly love God, we are going to love others. This outreach is to help the needs of the community. It’s also to help people come to have a better relationship with the church body. We believe part of being a believer is to be connected to a congregation. We want to show people who we are and what we are.”

Pastor Ramsey says at last November’s Community Day church members were touched by the experience to show they care.

“We are able to connect with others as we do it and to show that we really do care. There’s no judging going on. We’re just here because God has called us to love others. It’s made a huge impact in our church to see people where they’re at, and that’s the kind of church we are, and It’s also the kind of church we want to continue to be is the church that really sees people in all areas of life. No matter where you are, we’re all God’s children and we’ve all been made by God. We have a relationship with God, but we also have the opportunity to love on others as well.”
