Bailey Busted on Meth Charge During Traffic Stop

A Smithville man was busted on a methamphetamine charge during a recent traffic stop
48 year old John Thomas Bailey of Short Mountain Highway, Smithville was arrested on April 9th for possession of methamphetamine with intent to manufacture, sell, or deliver. He was also cited for simple possession of another drug and paraphernalia. Bailey’s bond is $10,000 and he will make a court appearance on May 9
Sheriff Patrick Ray said Bailey was a passenger of a maroon Mazda car stopped by a deputy for having a head light out. The driver gave the deputy consent to search and he found four baggies of a crystal like substance on the floor board under the seat directly in front of the rear passenger. The total weight of the four bags was 4.6 grams. Bailey admitted that the drugs belonged to him. Another small baggie containing a piece of a white pill was recovered from inside a cigarette pack in the car door. Two needles were also found inside the vehicle
Meanwhile, 35 year old Anthony Joe Hamilton of Luttrell Avenue, Smithville was arrested after being indicted by the grand jury earlier this month for possession of methamphetamine with intent to manufacture, sell, or deliver. His bond is $50,000 and he will make a court appearance June 4.
42 year old John Franklin Gronbeck of Gassaway Road Woodbury is charged with driving on a suspended license. He was also cited for a light law violation. Gronbeck is under a $1,500 bond and his court date is April 25.
Sheriff Ray said that on April 8 a deputy conducted a traffic stop on a Dodge pickup truck for a light law violation andspoke with the driver, Gronbeck. A check through central dispatch found that Gronbeck’s driver license were suspended on June 15, 2018 due to previous convictions.
42 year old John Gabriel Perez of Runge, Texas is charged under four warrants for violation of an order of protection. His bond totals $14,300 and he will make a court appearance on April 25.
Sheriff Ray said that Perez has sent several messages through social media to his victim since February in violation of an order of protection against him. According to the warrants, Perez sent a message to her through face book messenger on February 16 & 17. Almost a month later on March 10, Perez sent her an email message. Then on April 3 Perez emailed a You tube video to the woman which contained foul language. also Earlier this month (April) Perez “liked” comments made on the victim’s face book page.

Many Easter Events Scheduled

Many Easter events are scheduled this week and Sunday.
Among them are as follows:
*Breakfast with the Easter Bunny will be Saturday, April 20 from 8 a.m. until 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall at 101 West Church Street, Smithville. Enjoy pancakes, eggs, bacon, and sausage with juice and coffee. Pictures with the Easter Bunny will also be made. Prices are $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for children. Its free for children ages 2 and younger. To go plates will be $5.00. All proceeds will benefit the DeKalb County Cub Scouts Pack #347
*The AmVets Ladies Auxiliary Post 101 annual Easter Egg Hunt will be Saturday, April 20 at Greenbrook Park, Pavilion two .The hunt will start sharply at 12 Noon. for ages up to 13. Bring your Easter basket. Refreshments and games for those who arrive early.
*Free event- New Life United Pentecostal Church will present “Do You Know The Man”, a musical drama about the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Performance times are Friday and Saturday 7 PM. Sunday 10 AM and 6 PM. Everyone welcome.
*Blue Springs Methodist Church will have worship on Easter Sunday morning, April 21 at 6:30 a.m. with breakfast to follow immediately. Everyone welcome.
*A Son Rise Service will be at the Covenant Baptist Church at 930 South Mountain Street, Smithville on Easter Sunday, April 21 starting at 6 a.m. Everyone is welcome.
*Smithville AG presents: Journey to the Cross The Musical- Friday April 19th at 7pm, Saturday April 20th at 6pm, and Sunday April 21st at 11am. It’s free! Come join us!
*Dowelltown Baptist Church will be hosting a Dowelltown Community Egg Hunt on Saturday April 20th at 10am. There will be hunts for ages 12 and younger. Everyone Welcome!
*Cooper’s Missionary Baptist Church is having Sunrise Service April 21 starting at 6:30 a.m. No Sunday School. Service starts at 11:00. Everyone is welcome to attend.
*The Smithville Church of God is hosting “Easter in the Park” on Sunday, April 21 at Greenbrook Park. Registration begins at 10:30 a.m. A children’s church and adult worship service will start at 11 a.m. An Easter Egg Hunt will be at 12:30 p.m. for children up to 5th grade. Door prizes will be given away. Everything is FREE! Enjoy food, blowups, bingo, face painting, and LIVE music.
*You are invited to a Community Easter Egg Hunt at Calvary Baptist Church. Come join us on April 20th at 10AM for games, egg hunt and fun. This year a gyrocopeter will drop 5 special eggs with prizes from the air. Calvary Baptist church is located on 830 Foster Road.
*Refuge Church will be hosting an Easter Eggstravaganza at Greenbrook Park on Saturday, April 20th from 5-8pm. We will be having a regular egg hunt for our younger children at 5:30pm. At dark, we will be having a flashlight egg hunt for ages 7-up. In between the two egg hunts, we will be having food, games, prizes, and tons of fun. Bring a basket and join the fun.
The Smithville First Baptist Church, Smithville Church of God, Smithville Cumberland Presbyterian Church, and Calvary Baptist Church are joining for Holy Week services. A communion service will be held Thursday, April 18 at 6:30 p.m. at the Smithville Cumberland Presbyterian Church. The speaker will be Chad Ramsey of the Smithville First Baptist Church. A Good Friday service will be April 19 at 6:30 p.m. at the Smithville First Baptist Church featuring speaker Chris Moore of the Smithville Church of God. An Easter Egg Hunt will be Saturday, April 20 at 10 a.m. at the Calvary Baptist Church. Pastor Michael Martin will speak. An Easter Sunrise service will be April 21 at Evins Park Gazebo downtown Smithville starting at 6 a.m. The speaker will be Isaac Gray of the Smithville Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Everyone is invited.
