Lady Tigers to Face Cumberland County in Region Tournament

The DCHS Lady Tigers will have to settle for fourth place in the District 8AA basketball tournament after losing 41 to 39 Monday night to York Institute in the girls consolation game at Tennessee Tech.
The Lady Tigers, a 4th seed from district 8, will meet the top seed from district 7, Cumberland County (23-6) Friday at Crossville at 7 p.m.
Meanwhile Macon County defeated Upperman 55 to 38 to claim the girls district tournament championship Monday night.
DeKalb County swept the regular season series against the Lady Dragons winning 66 to 52 on November 30 in Smithville and 51 to 34 at Jamestown on January 18.
In the game Monday night, DC trailed 9 to 8 after the 1st period. The game was tied at 22 by halftime. The Lady Tigers trailed 33 to 29 after the 3rd period and lost 41 to 39.
Kadee Ferrell scored 13, Lydia Brown 11, Mya Ruch 7, Emme Colwell 5, and Maddison Parsley with 3.
The Lady Tigers are now 20-10 on the season.
Livingston Academy and Upperman will battle for the boys District Tournament Championship Tuesday night, February 19 at 7:30 p.m. In the consolation game, York Institute will face Watertown for third place at 6 p.m. Tuesday night at Tennessee Tech.
Nashville Couple and Four Month Old Twins Escape Injury in Car Crash

A Nashville couple and twin infants (boy and girl) escaped injury in a one car crash Sunday night on Highway 70 east (Sligo Hill) on the Smithville side.
24 year old Ashly Vaul was driving west in a 2004 Chevrolet Aveo when the car started to hydroplane in the rain and went off the road into a ditch coming to rest on its side. 26 year old Logan Cochrane and two-four month old infants were passengers.
DeKalb EMS was at the scene and checked out the infants but they did not have to be transported to the hospital. The adults refused transport to the hospital.
Members of the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department and DeKalb Volunteer Fire Department were also on the scene.
Fugitive Faces Five Felony Charges After Running from the Law on Sunday

The fugitive the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department spent much of the day looking for Sunday is now facing five felony charges and he will make a court appearance on February 28.
34 year old George Forrest Brown of Reading, Michigan is charged with unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon, evading arrest, fugitive from justice, reckless endangerment, and aggravated burglary. His bond totals $235,000.
The charges are as follows:
*Aggravated Burglary: On February 17, Brown broke into a residence on Happy Trail Lane, Smithville with the intent to commit a felony.
*Reckless Endangerment: On February 17, Brown fled after having received a signal from law enforcement to stop. Brown evaded for several miles in an extremely reckless manner placing his 9 year old passenger (son) in imminent danger of death or serious bodily injury.
*Fugitive from Justice: On February 17, Brown was found to be in DeKalb County. He has multiple active warrants with full extradition from the state of Michigan.
*Evading Arrest: On February 17, Brown fled after having received a signal from law enforcement to stop. He evaded for several miles in an extremely reckless manner placing a 9 year old passenger in imminent danger of death or serious bodily injury.
*Possession of a weapon by a felon: On February 17, Brown did unlawfully possess a firearm and he has been convicted of a felony offense. A pistole was found in the car he had wrecked on Puckett’s Point Road.
33 year old Joshua Lynn McCowan of Lavergne Street, Alexandria is charged with public intoxication. His bond is $1,500 and he will make a court appearance March 7.
Sheriff Patrick Ray said that on February 16 a deputy was notified that a man was at the Dollar General Store in Alexandria highly intoxicated. Upon arrival, the officer spoke with the man McCowan and noticed that he was very unsteady on his feet and he could barely stand. His speech was also slurred. McCowan said he was planning to walk to Lebanon and admitted to having consumed Suboxone. McCowan was placed under arrest for his safety and that of the public.
40 year old Billy Wayne Scott of McMinnville Highway, Smithville is cited for simple possession of a schedule II drug (methamphetamine) (0.1 gram)
Sheriff Ray said that on February 12, a deputy received a call about two suspicious persons at a boat ramp and upon arrival found one of them, Scott with two baggies containing a residue of a crystal like substance believed to be methamphetamine in his pocket. Scott’s court date is set for February 28.
