Tigers Lose to Wildcats in Overtime, Lady Tigers Beat LA

The DCHS Lady Tigers enjoyed a 61 to 49 win over visiting Livingston Academy Tuesday night in Smithville but the Tigers suffered a crushing 80 to 78 overtime lost to the Wildcats.

The Lady Tigers improve to 15-6 overall and 7-2 in the district which the Tigers drop to 3-18 on the season and 2-7 in district play.

In the girls game, DC led 19 to 12 after the 1st period, 33 to 26 at halftime, and 44 to 31 after the 3rd period before winning 61 to 49.

Lydia Brown scored 19, Kadee Ferrell 15, Mya Ruch 9, Emme Colwell 8, Joni Robinson and Kenzie France each with 4 and Maddison Parsley with 2.

In the previous meeting in December, the Lady Tigers defeated Livingston Academy 48 to 33.

Meanwhile in the boys game DeKalb County led 17 to 12 after the 1st period, 34 to 32 at halftime, and 56 to 52 after the 3rd period. The score was tied at 74 by the end of regulation. In the overtime, the Wildcats outscored the Tigers 6 to 4 and won 80 to 78.

Tanner Poss scored 23, Nathan Atkins scored 20, Dallas Cook 14, Dakota White 13, and Colter Norris with 8.

In the December meeting the Tigers lost 83 to 56 at Livingston Academy.

Sparta Man Charged with DUI and Hit & Run

A Sparta man who left the scene of a single vehicle crash Saturday night was later found and placed under arrest.

33 year old Peter Alexander Jensen of Sparta is charged with driving under the influence and accident resulting in damage-hit and run. His bond is $5,000 and he will make a court appearance January 31.

Sheriff Patrick Ray said that on Saturday, January 19 a deputy was called to Sparta Highway due to a crash. Upon arrival the officer learned that the driver had left the scene in a silver vehicle. The deputy began a search and found the man, Jensen in the vehicle at the White County line in DeKalb County. Jensen had a strong odor of alcohol on his person and his eyes were glassy. He would not answer the officer’s questions. Jenson also refused to submit to field sobriety tasks. The officer obtained a search warrant to perform a blood alcohol test on Jensen. He was brought to the jail for booking.

47 year old Marcus John Peregoy of Hodges Road, Smithville is cited for simple possession of a schedule III drug (Buprenorphine) or Subutex. His court date is January 31.

Sheriff Ray said that on January 14 while conducting a pat down search of Peregoy after arresting him  on a warrant from Warren County, an officer found three pills and a crusher on Peregoy




DeKalb Neighbors Helping Neighbors Blood Drive Upcoming

A DeKalb County Neighbors Helping Neighbors Blood Assurance Drive will be Monday, February 18 from noon until 5:30 p.m. at the County Complex Senior Citizens Center inside the Bloodmobile.
