Judge Hands Down Sentence in Attempted Aggravated Robbery Case

July 29, 2018
By: Dwayne Page

A McMinnville man charged in an attempted aggravated robbery two years ago was sentenced in DeKalb County Criminal Court last Monday, July 23.

Judge David Patterson presided.

21 year old Logan Tyler Martin entered a plea to the charge and received a five year sentence to serve. The term is to run concurrently with a Warren County sentence against him and he is under a restraining order to keep away from the victim. Martin was given jail credit from April 29 to April 30, 2016 and from June 19 to July 17, 2018.

Sheriff Patrick Ray said that on Friday, April 29, 2016 Martin, who was age 19 at the time, drove up to a location on McMinnville Highway where the intended victim was doing some yard work. Charles Robert Fults, Jr, 18 years old at the time, was a passenger with Martin. Fults got out of the vehicle, pulled a silver knife as he approached the victim and demanded his wallet. When the victim refused to hand over the wallet, Fults got back in the vehicle with Martin and they drove away. After the offense was reported to authorities a Be on the Lookout (BOLO) was issued to other law enforcement agencies. The vehicle was spotted in Warren County where Fults and Martin were taken into custody.

The case against Fults remains pending in court.

Meanwhile, 38 year old Christopher Hall entered a plea to a burglary charge by criminal information and received a four year sentence on TDOC probation. He must make restitution totaling $180 to the victims. Hall was charged with breaking into Thalle Construction on May 25

42 year old Anthony Steven Alley of McMinnville entered a plea to a charge of evading arrest and received a six year sentence suspended to probation.

According to Smithville Police Chief Mark Collins, the incident occurred on February 13, 2017 when a Smithville Police Officer clocked a black Infinity SUV traveling 66 miles per hour in a 30 mile per hour speed zone on Miller Road and got in pursuit when the driver wouldn’t stop. The chase continued to Robinson Road, Game Ridge Road, Dry Creek Road, and onto New Home Road. The SUV then turned onto Vickers Hollow Road, drove through a barbed wire fence, and struck a tree in a patch of woods before catching fire. The occupants bolted from the vehicle and went down a ravine trying to get away on foot. According to the warrants, 22 year old Kylie Smart of Manchester, a passenger with Alley, was found trying to hide in the woods while 36 year old Nancy Self of Centertown, another passenger, was attempting to cover herself with leaves behind a log. Both were quickly apprehended without incident. Alley escaped into the woods but was arrested later. The women received only minor injuries and refused transport to the hospital.
