Dozens of seniors at DCHS were rewarded for years of academic and athletic achievements during Tuesday evening’s senior awards night program held in the high school gym.

The DCHS Tigerettes will be hoping to keep their district tournament hopes alive tonight (Wednesday) at Lafayette.

Game time for the Tigerettes is at 8 p.m. and their opponent will be either White County or Stone Memorial. Those two teams will meet at 4 p.m.

The Tigerettes lost to Upperman on Tuesday afternoon 2 to 0 but then defeated Livingston Academy 11-8 Tuesday night in the losers bracket of the double elimination tournament being played at Macon County High School.

Meanwhile the DCHS Tiger Soccer team won Tuesday night 2-1 against Stone Memorial in the District 6 AA Semifinals. The Tigers will play in the Championship on Thursday at 6:00 against Cumberland Co. at White Co.

For DCHS Senior Elishah Ramos, the high school basketball career he enjoyed so much is over. But for Ramos, a new basketball career looms on the horizon at the college level.

Joined by his family, friends, and assistant coach, Ramos signed a letter of intent Tuesday afternoon to join the Bethel University Wildcats starting next season. The school is located in McKenzie, Tennessee.

As a Tiger basketball standout, Ramos’ role was primarily as a shooting guard and point guard. Ramos said he will look back on his high school playing days with fondness, especially this past year under a new coaching staff in Joey Agee and Cody Randolph.

“The new coaches coming in really showed us a lot of love and support, being there for us in the hard times and the great times and helping us keep our minds and mentality straight,” said Ramos.

“I also enjoyed playing basketball with my friends and I am going to miss it. I grew up with these guys and they are like brothers,” he said.

Assistant DCHS Basketball Coach Cody Randolph said its no surprise to either him or head coach Joey Agee that Elishah would have an opportunity to further his athletic career in college.

“I have known Elishah since he was in the 6th grade and one thing you never had to question was his love for the game of basketball. He always put in the extra work and enjoyed it. During his high school years he brought a spark, intensity, and excitement to the game. He always had such good court vision with the ability to make a pass you may not have thought was makeable. We always told our players if Elishah is close to you with the basketball you need to get your eyes up and hands up because its coming. We couldn’t be prouder and more excited to see what he does in the future at Bethel,” said Coach Randolph.
Coach Agee was unable to attend the signing due to his being at a funeral service.

Ramos said he preferred a smaller school to attend college and thought Bethel would be a good fit for him.

“I just really like a smaller school. Bethel is a private Christian School, and it will give me a chance to know my professors better. For me it’ll be a more personal experience,” said Ramos.

At Bethel, Ramos said he plans to earn a degree in business.

The Bethel University Wildcats are members of the Mid-South Conference
