DeKalb Election Turnout Tuesday Larger than in August

The DeKalb County turnout for the Election Tuesday was better than in August but not as large as the November elections in 2020 or 2018.

A total of 5,226 people voted Tuesday locally including 3,681 on election day, 1,389 during the walk-in early voting period and 156 by absentee.

In the August DeKalb County General Election and Tennessee Primaries, total of 4,794 people voted including 2,214 on election day and 2,357 during early voting. There were 223 absentee voters. That turnout represented 37.14% of the total number of registered voters at 12,909.

A record number of voters turned out for the Presidential election locally in November 2020 totaling 8,542 including 4,606 early voters, 511 absentees and 3,425 on election day.

Four years ago, in November, 2018, the DeKalb County turnout was 6,030 people including 3,135 early voters and absentees and 2,895 on election day.




Lane Ball Elected 4th District Constable

Republican Lane Ball won election to fill the 4th district constable position on Tuesday.

Ball, who ran unopposed, received 695 votes to fill the vacancy created by the death of constable Paul Cantrell in June 2021.

All seven constable positions in DeKalb County including this 4th district post will be on the ballot again for election to four-year terms in 2024




Congressman John Rose Wins Re-Election

Republican U.S. Representative John Rose defeated Democrat Randal Cooper in Tennessee’s 6th Congressional District race Tuesday.

Rose’s win sets him up for a third term as a representative from Tennessee, but the first under the new maps drawn by the state Republican legislature earlier this year. The newly drawn 6th Congressional District includes parts of East Nashville and Donelson for the first time.

Congressman Rose easily carried DeKalb County including all 12 precincts and the early voting and absentee totals winning with 3,901 votes to 900 for Cooper. District wide Rose won 129,311 to 65,598.

“It’s a real honor to have the confidence of the people of the 6th district,” Congressman Rose told WJLE on election night. “We saw democracy on display in this election. Its great when Americans are able to go out and express their views and vote for the candidates of their choice. Our family is so thankful to the people of DeKalb County for the opportunity to continue to represent this great county in the U.S. House of Representatives. I look forward to serving the folks of Tennessee and the 6th district for the next two years,” said Congressman Rose.

Rose won every county he represents in the 19-county district except Davidson where he lost to Cooper 32,738 to 12,254.
