DeKalb Prevention Coalition to Host Overdose Awareness Event

The DeKalb Prevention Coalition will host an observance Thursday, September 1 to show support for those struggling with substance abuse addiction and to honor and remember those who have lost the fight.
This “Overdose Awareness Event” will be from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the courthouse on the public square featuring LIVE music and refreshments and Free overdose reversal training for all. If you have a loved one who has passed due to an overdose, please bring a picture to honor their memory.
Guest speakers will be DeKalb County Mayor-Elect Matt Adcock,; Will Taylor, Faith-based Community Coordinator for Middle Tennessee ; and Justin Cantrell, Regional Overdose Prevention Specialist.

DTC Communications to Host Annual Meeting

DeKalb Telephone Cooperative, Inc. d/b/a DTC Communications will host its annual meeting on Saturday, Sept. 17, 2022, at the DeKalb County Fairgrounds in Alexandria.
Directors will be elected in the Auburntown, Gordonsville, Temperance Hall, and Woodland exchanges. The Nominating Committee has qualified the following candidates by nomination: Incumbents Kathy Pugh – Auburntown exchange, James H. Dillard, Jr. – Gordonsville exchange, Kurt Bass – Temperance Hall exchange, and David Parker – Woodland exchange. One candidate, Jason Brown, qualified by petition in the Auburntown exchange.
Voting for directors will take place at the cooperative’s annual meeting on Saturday, Sept. 17, and during early voting Monday-Wednesday, Sept. 12-14. The last day to make changes to your membership for the 2022 election is Thursday, Sept. 8.

On Saturday, Sept. 17, gates to the DeKalb County Fairgrounds in Alexandria
will open at 8:45 a.m., with voting from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. The business meeting will
begin at 11 a.m. or once the last person in line at that time has voted.
Only DTC members may vote, and each member must present proper photo
identification. For a single membership, only that individual may vote. Either member
of a joint membership may vote, but not both. In the case of a business membership, a
business affidavit is required.
The last day to make changes to your membership or to be eligible to vote in the 2022 election will be Thursday, Sept. 8.

Smithville Mayor and Aldermen-Elect to start new terms September 1

The Smithville Mayor and Aldermen-elect will be sworn into office to begin their new 4 year terms during the next city council meeting at city hall on Thursday, September 1 at 6 p.m.
The monthly meeting will be held on September 1 instead of Monday, September 12 as had been scheduled.
In Smithville, Mayor Josh Miller was re-elected unopposed to a second term last Thursday with 805 votes while Alderman Beth Chandler won her first full term with 670 votes. She has been filling an unexpired term. Don Crook was also elected Alderman. He received 508 votes and will succeed Brandon Cox who chose not to seek re-election as Aldermen but instead ran for and was elected DeKalb County General Sessions Court Judge.
