By: Dwayne Page

A Dowelltown woman was airlifted to Skyline Medical Center after being involved in a crash with a dump truck Wednesday afternoon on Highway 56 near the intersection of Blue Springs Road.

According to Lieutenant Billy Prater of the Tennessee Highway Patrol, 69-year-old Kathy H. Phillips was traveling south in a 2006 Nissan Murano SUV when she crossed the centerline and into the path of a northbound 1993 Mack dump truck, driven by 34-year-old Ryan A. Davis of Monroe, Tennessee of Rhino Trucking who was on a highway work detail for Rogers Group. The truck had no load on it at the time.

Davis was not injured but Phillips had to be extricated from her car by members of the DeKalb County Fire Department Rescue Team who were summoned to the scene. She was treated by DeKalb EMS and then airlifted by a Life Force helicopter ambulance which had landed nearby.

The crash was investigated by Trooper T.J. Withers and John Burke of the Tennessee Highway Patrol. DeKalb Sheriff’s Department officers were also on the scene.
