Alexandria Lion’s Club to Sponsor the Annual Joe Hearn Memorial Scholarship Fund Poker Run

In what has become an annual event, the Alexandria Lions Club will sponsor a fundraiser next month in support of a DCHS graduate and in memory of a long time friend.

The Joe Hearn Memorial Scholarship Fund Poker Run will be held Saturday, October 10 at the DeKalb County Fairgrounds in Alexandria featuring Hot Rods, Bikes, etc.

The Lions Club established this memorial scholarship fund as a tribute to the memory of Joe Hearn and is awarded to a high school vocational student each year.

Joe Hearn was an avid Ford Mustang lover and longtime dedicated member of the Alexandria Lions Club.

The entry fee for the Poker Run is $25, $5.00 per passenger and it includes a BBQ meal. Prizes will be awarded for high score vehicles, high score bikes, and low score overall. Registration begins at 8 a.m. and the departure time is 9 a.m. The run will be approximately 2 hours. The entire route will be on paved roads. WJLE’s Fearless Forecasters Return Thursday, September 17

WJLE’s “Fearless Forecasters” are returning for another season of college pigskin prognosticating Thursday, September 17 at 4:30 p.m.

This season’s regulars are Dewain Hendrixson, Scott Brown, Jared Davis, Chad Kirby, Jeff and Grant James, Ricky Atnip, John Pryor, Will Graham, and Darrell Gill along with a new Fearless Forecaster Scott Goodwin.

The “Fearless Forecasters” pick who they believe will win in fourteen of the biggest or most interesting college football games of the week along with the Tennessee Titans games.

They also make an underdog selection each week.

The Fearless Forecaster with the best record and most underdog points is awarded at the end of the season.

The program is sponsored by First Bank, Davis Auto Body, DeKalb County Ace Hardware, Middle Tennessee Natural Gas, Love-Cantrell Funeral Home, DeKalb County Insurance, Gill Automotive, the Charles D. Atnip Realty & Auction Company, Graham Services, and Domino’s Pizza.

Two DeKalb Firefighters Graduate from State LIVE Burn Training Class

Two members, Patrick Colwell and Jordan Lader of the DeKalb County Fire Department graduated from the Tennessee Fire Service and Codes Enforcement Training Academy’s Live Burn Firefighter I class held Saturday and Sunday, September 12 and 13.

Captain Brian Williams said this 16-hour course requires students to demonstrate skills needed to extinguish a passenger vehicle fire attack, exterior Class A fire attack, interior structure fire attack, commercial buildings and ground cover fire attack.

“We are extremely proud of these recent graduates. Today, our department stands better prepared to respond to emergencies because of the high standards for training we set for our firefighters,” said Captain Williams.
