A total of 465 people have taken advantage of early voting for the August 6 elections through Tuesday, July 21.
According to the DeKalb County Election Commission Office, 98 people cast ballots Tuesday with no new absentees. Of that number 73 voted in the Tennessee Republican Primary and 25 in the State Democratic Primary.
The City of Smithville vote stands at 155 total through Tuesday including in-person and absentee ballots and 48 property rights voters.
For the first four days of early voting a total of 272 have voted in the Tennessee GOP primary, 173 in the Tennessee Democratic Primary, and 20 have voted only in the DeKalb County General Election without voting in either state primary.
Early voting started Friday, July 17 and runs Monday to Saturday until Saturday, Aug. 1 in the downstairs courtroom of the courthouse.
Hours for early voting are Mondays 1-5 p.m.; Tuesdays 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.; Wednesdays 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.; Thursdays 2-6 p.m.; Fridays 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.; and Saturdays 9 a.m. to 12 noon. Election day voting at all 15 precincts will be from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, August 6.
Woman and Baby Airlifted After Saturday Crash (View Video Here)

A man, woman and two small children were involved in a one car crash Saturday afternoon on Petty Road.
Trooper Troy Withers of the Tennessee Highway Patrol told WJLE that 22 year old Deanna Gibbs of Smithville was traveling east on Petty Road in a 1999 Volkswagen when the car went off the right side of the narrow road and struck a tree. Passengers in the car were 21 year old Christopher Gibbs, a 3 year old boy, and a one and a half year old girl. Ms Gibbs and the baby girl were transported from the scene by DeKalb EMS to the Midway County Fire Station where they were airlifted by helicopter ambulance to Vanderbilt Hospital. Mr. Gibbs was taken by EMS to Ascension Saint Thomas DeKalb Hospital. The three year old child was not injured.

Members of the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department and DeKalb Volunteer Fire Department were on the scene to assist. Citations are pending.
10U Tigers Claim TYBA Open Championship

The DeKalb Youth Baseball League 10U team won the Tennessee Youth Baseball Association (TYBA) Open championship Sunday at Barfield Park in Murfreesboro.
The Tigers lost to MTA of Murfreesboro 9 to 8 on Friday but on Saturday defeated the Bedford County Wolfpack 11 to 1 and the Smyrna Outlaws 13 to 1 to secure the #1 seed in the tournament on Sunday.
After beating the Outlaws 12-4 in a rematch Sunday, the Tigers faced MTA again in the semi-finals and won 14-5 before knocking off the Nashville Storm Chasers 8 to 1 in the Championship game.
The DeKalb County 15 year old and younger Tiger team also competed in their division of the tournament.
Meanwhile, signups are underway for a Youth Baseball Fall League with divisions for 7-8 year old Machine Pitch; 9,10, & 11 year old Major League Kid Pitch; and 12-15 year old Kid Pitch Senior League.
Players already in the summer league can sign up for fall league at $15 per participant. The cost is $50 each for new players.
Signups will be Tuesday night, July 21 and every Tuesday night through August 4 at the ballpark on Allen Ferry Road.
