Second Arrest Made in Recent Burglary and Theft

A second arrest has been made in a recent burglary and theft on Ferrell Road.

Sheriff Patrick Ray said that 30 year old Toni Michelle Lloyd of Old Bildad Road, Smithville is charged with vandalism, theft of property over $10,000, and burglary. Her bond is $11,000 and she will make a court appearance July 25.

22 year old Dylan Allen Crook of Alexandria was arrested earlier in the case and charged with the same offenses. He is under a $55,000 bond and his court date is July 25.

Sheriff Ray said that on June 29, Lloyd and Crook broke into a garage on Ferrell Road and stole several items including tools, luggage, emergency vehicle lighting, and a dirt bike stand with a total value of $11,501. They also destroyed ignition switches trying to steal a John Deere 5103 tractor, Polaris Outlaw 90 ATV, Bobcat lawnmower, and a Ranger Crew 1,000 XP UTV. Damage to the ignition switches and to the door frame of the garage where this equipment was stored came to $1,120.

A prisoner was caught with contraband in the jail believed to be marijuana.

48 year old Chad Everette Knowles of the Loop Circle. Smithville is charged with the offense and will make a court appearance on July 25. His bond is $2,500.

Sheriff Ray said that on July 9 a correctional officer spotted Knowles trying to hide a piece of paper containing a green leafy substance, believed to be marijuana under his mat in the jail.

Two weeks ago five puppies shared the spotlight as the WJLE/DeKalb Animal Coalition featured Pets. This week their mother, Isabelle takes center stage.

“Isabelle is sweet as pie. She is looking forward to being able to be a pup herself after working hard to raise her 7 pups to be ready for the world. Isabelle is a lovely red and white spotted hound mix about 3 years old that gets along well with other dogs as long as her pups aren’t around. She will be devoted to her new family and enjoy being part of the pack. Isabelle is looking for her second chance at a comfortable life,” said Shelter Director Megan Moore.

If you would like to come out and meet Isabelle or four of her puppies who remain to be adopted please call or visit the shelter.

The shelter is now open for business Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 12pm-4pm and Saturday 10am-12pm. and has a new telephone number 615-597-3647 (DOGS).

The DeKalb County Fair returns for its annual weeklong run Monday through Saturday, July 15-20.

With the theme “Celebrating 163 years at the Great DeKalb County Fair, this year’s edition will feature another fun filled week of rides by Prime Time Amusement Company, the opening of a brand new Ag Center for hosting various fair activities, and many crowd pleasing events including the Demolition Derby, Bullwhip Rodeo, ATV/Motorcycle Racing, the Lip Sync Battle and much more.

Two new beauty pageants will be added this year, a Mrs. Fair Queen for ladies up to age 54, and a Miss Senior Fair Queen for women age 55 and older.

Cash drawings will be held each night and you must be present to win. Any cash not won during the week will be given away on Saturday night.

The Farm Bureau mobile “Tennessee Agriculture in the Classroom” AgSimulator will also be on site during the fair behind the Commercial Building and in front of the new Ag Center. Students and adults will get to experience the feel of a real harvester cab while true ag facts and harvest simulations play inside the simulator.

The TWRA, Tennessee Division of Forestry, and Tennessee Highway Patrol will have displays and information to share.

Rides on the Midway will be provided by Prime Time Amusement. Unlimited rides will be available for $15.00 on Monday night; $16.00 on Tuesday night; $14.00 on Wednesday and $18.00 on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.

Admission to the fair is $5.00 per person. Children age four and younger will be admitted free! Gates open at 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. The exhibit building is open from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and Saturday from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Parking is Free!
