Mother Cat and Four Kittens Need Forever Homes (VIEW VIDEO HERE)

The DeKalb Animal Coalition is in search of forever homes for a domestic short-haired mother cat and four kittens which are the WJLE/DeKalb Animal Coalition featured “Pets of the Week”.

They may be all adopted together or separately. They are sweet & playful and need the right family to take them home.

“We had a lady bring us a 7 year old mama cat and 4 kittens. The kittens are 6 weeks old, weaned, and ready for adoption. Their names are Gus, Nala, Nora, and Nyiah. The mother is “Fiona”,” said James and Angela Wilkerson.

The shelter, located at 186 Transfer Station Road behind Tenneco Automotive, is open Thursday and Friday from noon until 4 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. until noon.




Madison Cantrell Top Scholarship Winner at DCHS Senior Awards Night Ceremony

Madison Cantrell was the top scholarship award winner during Monday night’s Class of 2019 Awards Night program held at DCHS.

Cantrell received more than $300,000 in scholarships including $199,750 from the University of Alabama, the largest single award of the night.

Three other students are to receive more than $100,000 in scholarships including Cameron Ervin, Justin Gohs, and Harley Sloan who will get $117, 832 for their enlistment in the US Army.

Trey Fuston also received several scholarships and was recognized for already having completed two years of college at Motlow State Community College through the dual enrollment program. Fuston has earned an Associates of Science Degree. He walked the line in a Motlow commencement ceremony at MTSU in Murfreesboro on Sunday, May 5.

Representatives of colleges, universities, branches of the armed services, businesses, civic groups, and other organizations made the presentations.

Tigerettes’ Season Comes to Close with Region Tournament Loss at Sequatchie County

The season for the DCHS Tigerettes is over after they lost at Sequatchie County 4 to 3 in the Region Tournament opener Monday in Dunlap.

Sequatchie County led 1 to 0 after the 1st inning and scored another run in the 2nd to take a 2-0 lead which held up until the top of the 4th inning when the Tigerettes scored 2 runs to tie the game and then added another run in the 6th to grab a 3 to 2 advantage. Sequatchie County rallied for 2 runs in the 7th for a 4 to 3 come from behind victory.

The Tigerettes scored 3 runs on 3 hits and made 2 errors. Sequatchie County scored 4 runs on 6 hits and made 3 errors.

Emme Colwell gave up 4 runs on 6 hits through 6 innings. She struck out 5 and walked 5. Madison Whitehead came in for 1 inning and gave up 1 hit.

Maddison Parsley, Megan Walker, and Braya Murphy each had a hit and Emme Colwell had an RBI.
