Old Timers Antiques Wins Top Prize for Best LIVE Window Display during Christmas on the Square

The Downtown Smithville Christmas on the Square celebration had a wonderful new addition of “live” display windows by local businesses for 2018. This new feature added a fun and magical element to an already successful event.
“We would like to thank all the businesses that participated, along with the City of Smithville Mayor and staff, DeKalb County elected officials and staff, local churches, civic organizations, Justin Potter Library Director and staff, and the Sheriff’s Department that volunteered their time and resources to make this a wonderful night for families to come together during the Christmas season, says Chamber Director Suzanne Williams.
“We are also grateful to Smithville Mayor Josh and Melissa Miller for personally donating $250 to the top Window Display Winner’s charity of their choice and to Chamber Board Member, Connie Tjarks, who took our ‘live’ window idea and worked with the very willing downtown business owners. The window displays turned out better than we could have imagined. So many attendees have expressed their appreciation and especially grateful for the joy it brought to their children. The business owners are excited by the response and are already thinking of new ideas for next year,” says Williams.
The night included many themes including DeKalb County Florist’s “Frozen,” Savvy Scrubs’ Snowman and Snowball Fight,” and D&D Fashions’ Life-Size “Elf on the Shelf.” The judges expressed what a difficult time it was trying to come to a decision for the awards, because all the windows were amazing.
The top prize went to Old Timers Antiques’ “Old Fashion Christmas.” The charity they choose for the $250 was Diggity Dog for Danielle Therique for a service dog. The “Most Creative” Award went to Jamie A Boutique’s “Christmas Music Box.” The “Crowd Favorite” Award was presented to Cantrell’s Clothing’s Grinch Window. The “Most Original” Award went to Button Willow General Store for their “Home for the Holidays” theme. The “Chamber Choice” Award was presented to The Vintage Owl.
