Jamboree Presents “Best Display” Craft Award (VIEW VIDEO HERE)

Dustin Headrick and Michael Hunter of Nashville received the “Best Display” craft award at the Fiddlers Jamboree Saturday.

A Picksmith, Headrick creates handcrafted guitar picks made from coins, metals, wood, bone, and synthetics.

In addition to the guitar picks, Headrick and Hunter’s display at the Jamboree featured metal arts and unique print art.

The award was presented by Dana Scott, the Fiddlers’ Jamboree Director of Crafts




Hall Charged with Breaking Into Same Storage Unit Twice

A Kentucky man accused of breaking into the same storage unit twice will make a court appearance in the case next week.

38 year old Christopher Allen Hall of Benton Kentucky is charged with two counts of burglary and theft of property. His bond totals $15,000 and his court date is July 19.

Sheriff Patrick Ray said that on May 25 Hall allegedly broke into a storage unit on Wolf Creek Road, Silver Point and stole a Milwaukee finished nailer kit valued at $385.23.

Hall allegedly returned to the same property on June 29 and broke into the storage unit again. This time he took a Milwaukee ½ inch drive hole-hawg drill and a Dewalt hammer drill valued at $488.35

Meanwhile, 42 year old Darrell Wayne Newby of Southside Drive, McMinnville is charged with vandalism over $1,000. His bond is $4,000 and his court date is July 19.

Sheriff Ray said that on May 8 a sheriff’s department deputy responded to Neal Drive for a possible burglary in progress. Upon arrival he encountered Newby inside the home where he allegedly caused $4,000 worth of damage.

48 year old Royce Avon Foster of Jacobs Pillar Road, Smithville is charged with public intoxication. His bond is $1,500 and his court date is July 26.

Sheriff Ray said that on Sunday, July 8 Foster came to the sheriff’s department complaining that someone had been putting lice on him. Foster said that he was covered in lice and couldn’t get them off of him. He admitted to having used methamphetamine. For his safety and that of the public, Foster was placed under arrest.

29 year old Ashley Danielle Geekie of Hayes Street, Smithville is charged with bringing contraband into a penal institution. She is under a $2,500 bond and her court date is July 26.

Sheriff Ray said that on Sunday, July 8 a female correctional officer was conducting a pat down search of Geekie at the jail when she found a small blue Altoid can in Geekie’s bra containing half of a peach colored pill believed to be an 8 milligram Suboxone, a schedule III drug. When asked what type of pill she had, Geekie admitted that it was Suboxone.

49 year old Shannon Eugene Tayes of Todd Lane, Dowelltown is charged with driving under the influence. He was also cited for simple possession of Hydrocodone, violation of the implied consent law, violation of the open container law, no insurance, and for speeding. Tayes’ bond is $1,500 and his court date is July 26.

Sheriff Ray said that on Saturday, July 7 a deputy stopped a vehicle for speeding and spoke to the driver, Tayes. The officer discovered that Tayes had an open container of alcohol in the automobile and that his insurance card was out of date. The deputy also smelled an odor of alcohol on Tayes’ person. Tayes admitted that he had been drinking and that he was drunk and could not pass field sobriety tasks. During a pat down search, the officer found on Tayes half of a Hydrocodone pill for which Tayes had no prescription. A search warrant was obtained for a blood sample after Tayes refused to voluntarily give blood for the test. He was placed under arrest.




Jamboree “Best Appalachian Craft” Award Goes to Murfreesboro Potter (VIEW VIDEO HERE)

Jonathan Griffith of Murfreesboro won the “Best Appalachian Craft” award at the Fiddlers’ Jamboree and Crafts Festival Saturday.

Griffith displayed his functional clay pieces and glazed paintings in wooden frames.
