Former Police Officer Among 10 People Arrested After Causing Damage During “Burnouts” at County Complex Parking Lot
July 14, 2023
By: Dwayne Page
A former Smithville Police Officer is among ten people who have been arrested and charged for misdemeanor and felony offenses after doing “burnouts” with their trucks in the recently repaved parking lot of the county complex causing at least $3,500 in damages.

26-year-old Michael Coronado, who was hired as a patrolman by the police department two years ago, left his employment with the city in May, 2023. Coronado had previously worked for the Cannon County and White County Sheriff’s Departments. He and the other nine defendants in this case are each charged with one count of Reckless Endangerment, a Class A Misdemeanor, and one count of Vandalism over $1,000, a Class E Felony.
The others charged are 19-year-old Trad Dale Grizzle of Spencer, 19-year-old Lucas Ryan Hale of Smithville, 21-year-old Tyzaun Orion Ladet of Smithville, 23-year-old Hunter Bailey Layne of Smithville, 21-year-old Brett Lee Martin of McMinnville, 22-year-old Damien Dewayne Martin of Smithville, 25-year-old Dylan Wayne Musick of Rock Island, 32-year-old Shannon Ray Pylant of Smithville, and 20-year-old William Lytle Sparkman of McMinnville.
Total bond for each is $7,500 and they will appear in DeKalb County General Sessions Court July 27.
The offense occurred around sunset on Saturday, July 1 and was posted in advance on social media as a “truck meet” with “burnouts welcome”.
In a prepared statement, Smithville Police Chief Mark Collins said “these subjects did engage in conduct that may have placed a multitude of individuals, including minors in imminent danger of death or serious bodily injury by doing “burnouts” and causing their vehicles to lose traction on the pavement in the DeKalb County Complex parking lot. These subjects also contributed to damage to the newly resurfaced pavement of the DeKalb County Complex parking lot. Estimated repairs to the pavement due to the “burnouts” is $3,500,” said Chief Collins.
