Goodlettsville Woman Driving a Stolen Car Arrested After Pursuit into Smith County

A Goodlettsville woman driving a stolen car led a DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department deputy on a pursuit into Smith County Thursday before being arrested.

28-year-old Megan Leigh Wilson is charged with evading arrest, theft of property, driving on a revoked or suspended license, and reckless endangerment. Her bond totals $36,000 and she will be in court December 15.

Sheriff Patrick Ray said that on December 1 a deputy was summoned to Hall Road due to a report of a possible stolen Toyota Avalon which had been spray painted black. The officer spotted a vehicle matching the description on Lower Helton Road in Alexandria and obtained tag information through central dispatch which confirmed that the car had been stolen as reported by the Lebanon Police Department. The driver of the car, Wilson, sped away and the deputy initiated a pursuit into Smith County. Although the Smith County Sheriff’s Department had put down spike strips, Wilson went around them. During the pursuit, Wilson crossed into the oncoming lane of traffic almost hitting other vehicles and before stopping, crashed through several private property gates on Ben Gentry Lane. Wilson then bailed out of the car and unsuccessfully tried to flee on foot. The deputy learned that in addition to being in possession of a stolen vehicle, Wilson was driving on a suspended license. The estimated value of the stolen car was $2,025.

In addition to the Smith County Sheriff’s Department, the Gordonsville Police Department assisted the DeKalb County officer in apprehending Wilson.

According to Sheriff Ray, Wilson thought she could elude authorities because she had successfully done it before in other counties that have a no pursuit policy in certain cases.

Santa made another appearance in DeKalb County on Sunday night for the Alexandria Christmas Parade.

The town’s annual holiday tradition, held for the third consecutive year after dark, gave onlookers a chance to experience the spirit of the season under the glow of lights along the parade route from West Main Street to the downtown square.

The Grand Marshal was Sandy Brown, outgoing Director of the Alexandria Senior Center. She was accompanied by driver, Alexandria Alderman Lynn Dickerson, who is also recipient of the Presidential Volunteer Lifetime Achievement Award.

The parade made its way into town led by Alexandria Police Chief Chris Russell. The Parade also featured floats, the DCHS and Watertown high school bands, vintage automobiles, horseback riders and horse drawn wagons, ATVS, fire trucks, Mayor Lloyd Dyer, Mr. and Mrs. DeKalb County Alex and Ashby Woodward., Smithville- DeKalb Rescue Squad, DeKalb EMS, Santa Claus, and more.

No awards were presented this year but drawings for prizes followed the parade.

The Town of Liberty was filled with many smiling faces Sunday afternoon for the annual Christmas parade.

Right on Time, a popular local gospel group, served as the Grand Marshal of the parade.

Spectators lined both sides of West Main Street along the parade route from Salem Baptist Church to the reviewing stand near the Liberty Community Center anxious to view the sights and to catch a glimpse of Santa.

This year’s Liberty parade featured a showcase of holiday themed floats, vintage automobiles, horseback riders, Mr. and Mrs. DeKalb County Alex and Ashby Woodward, the DCHS Fighting Tiger Band, special entries from local businesses and utility companies, ATVs, emergency vehicles including the DeKalb County Fire Department’s Liberty Station, Smithville-DeKalb County Rescue Squad, Liberty Mayor Audrey Martin and more including the star of the show, Santa Claus.

After the parade, awards were presented to the best entries and drawings were held for cash prize giveaways.

DeKalb Funeral Chapel took 1st place for their “Tender Tennessee Christmas” float entry. Second place went to Gallatin Fire Extinguisher of Woodbury. (The Vickers Family).

In the category old classic cars and trucks, Dale and Cameron Purcell of Liberty won 1st place for their entry of a 1966 Mustang convertible 289 four speed. Second place went to Steve Merriman of Smithville for his 1987 Chevrolet Silverado 4 x4.

In the entry for children, the Memorial Baptist Church took 1st place and 2nd place went to Toby Agee of Smithville.

First place in the entry for animals went to the Harvey Family & Grinch of Davis Hollow Road. Second place was awarded to Bill Stanton of Liberty
